Description
I'm currently trying to get back into my artwork mojo...When I was younger, I really liked this series. Now that I'm older, and reading reviews, it looks like I was the only one...
/\
Anyway, these characters are from Isaac and Janet Asimov's Norby the Mixed-up robot series. It's not the first time I've drawn fanart of these characters, but it is the first time I've submitted anything HERE(My other Norby fanart: "She thinks you're cute" is on Side7. I've also done fanart of stories like "Animal Farm")
Anyway, if you haven't heard of the series; here are the characters I've featured:
Norby: A robot of unknown origion. He contains technology that nobody thought possible, and he himself has no clue what he can do or how. Also, his back and his front are simmtrical, and it's hard to tell them apart. Mostly, he just hangs out with his owner Jeff, causing him trouble.
Jeff Wells: Norby's owner. Jeff's only 13, but looks like he's 18. He dreams of one day becoming a great inventor, and is interested in Norby's past for those purposes. When all is said and done, though, Jeff's very protective of Norby and willing to put up with his quirks.
Oola: An "all-purpose-pet" that Jeff and Norby found in an egg that a dragon was using as a tail rest. Oola is able to take on whatever shape you want her to be, and look like any animal you wish(Hence, I took some liberties on how she looks in this picture.). She has, shortly after hatching, taken a liking to Jeff's older brother, a ladies man by the name of Fargo.

You're not the only fan of the Norby series
May I be the first to post "YAY! OOLA!!!"

I'm glad, really. XD Norby is a great series. A little bit childish compared to other works, but nonetheless a great series.

I read it a lot in High School, it is a very playful story. Still it just dripped with sci-fi goodness as well, so many details filled out, with some basic, but real science behind them. It was kind of neat seeing the sci-fi without the limitation of seriousness burdening it.

I never read the comics, but I read every single book several times over. I LOVED Norby and Jeff and Fargo and the lot of them... that was my favorite series as a kid (I still have them!) But nobody else I knew even heard of it! I thought they were pretty good, for a kids sci-fi series from the 70/80s... I loved all those (sometimes hokey) 80's sci fi books lulz.

First experiance I had with Norby was a single demo tape of the audio book. It only went up to the point where Jeff bought Norby and cut off when he first named him. It wasn't enough, so I hunted and hunted and finally found a copy of the book, and grew to instantly love the characters.
Favorite human character is Fargo: I always like the swave has-everything-together-and-is-better-then-you'll-ever-be-psudo-jerk character, even though Fargo isn't that much of the jerk part(He's just better then YOU, and theres no sense really debating it. LOL.)
And Norby, heck is there anyway he could be MORE lovable a character for me?

lol yeah, Fargo was just purely hilarious--but also such a great character XD
I still want my own Norby someday... when they can invent them, of course ^^

Mmm... She could probably turn into that.
I just let my mind wander and gave her a cat's head, dog body, dragons tail, bat wings, and bunny ears. In the actual book, her description is pretty vaigue- all I know for sure is that she's green, and has some sort of bizzare mix between hair and scales.

You could probably find his books in the library or something. Keep in mind, they were written for kids so the pace is kind of slowish.

Well, if you wanna get technical, she's more the a dragon puppy(She can be anything your mind wills her to be.) but it's still a pretty nice description.

I want an Oola to call my own. Think about it- an "All-Purpose Pet."
I could train her to turn into a dog and fetch the paper, then jump into my lap and curl up as a kitten.

I think I remember this seires, only in comic form. When I was in the scouts and got Boy's Life all the time, they'd have the comic about him battling the evil Ing(Some guy wearing a purple demon mask). Loved the comic, though he was better when he was red.

I should note that since you know of Ing the Ingrate this comic book of which you talk about actually exists. I must have more information... GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION!!!

Ok well they had it way back(1989-91first series then 92-94 Second Series). Boy's Life featured lots on Asimov(Probably because he was for the Scouts), so a comic series was done about Norby, The Wells Brothers, and the rest. The comic followed the First and Second Norby books, you'd have to do a search on old Boy's Life magazines to find the comics.

I'll take a look at that. On the book cover I saw of this story, Norby was 100% silverish, but I thought that looked too... boring... so I added the extra colors.

Yeah that's why I liked the red color he had in the comics. That and when he punched Ing right in the kisser.

They had a comic version?
I only read the book version, and listened to a book on tape, and both had rather general discriptions to the characters... In fact, I was kind of surprise that in the second book, it turns out Admeral Yobo was black, cause it didn't mention anything that revealed that.
