Description
Note: Taken from The Stranger: an independent newspaper in Seattle Washington famous for appealing to the gay community, but a lot of heterosexual people read it too:THURSDAY, MARCH 20 The week continues with one of the more pathos-rich scenarios to unfold on a Seattle street since Last Days watched that saltine dissolve in a shallow puddle near the corner of 14th Avenue and East Howell Street in late 2004. Today's eyewitness: Hot Tipper Melyssa, who writes, "This afternoon at Third and Union, a pigeon was running around with a syringe completely stuck through its head like an arrow. The needle was stuck right under the pigeon's chin and extended about three inches out the other side. This tops the crow I saw two years ago in almost the same spot feasting on a dead rat's eyeball." Even creepier: Once Last Days posted Melyssa's report on The Stranger's blog, not one but two Slog commenters revealed they too had seen the syringe pigeon. "I saw that pigeon in about the same place a week or two ago," wrote Andrew. "For what it's worth, it appears to be a chronic condition for this pigeon rather than a fatal one." "I, too, saw that same bird, or another one with the same affliction, a week or so ago at the Third and Union bus stop," wrote DJ Girth. "Two junkies were laughing at it. It sort of felt like they had something to do with it." These reminiscences brought a bracing rant from Greendyke: "Jesus fuckβthis pigeon has been walking around like this for three weeks and at least three Sloggers have seen it and NO ONE in Seattle has helped it? I am ashamed to be a human being." Finally, key perspective was provided by Comte: "You ever try to catch a pigeon? I personally wouldn't feel all that comfortable trying to wrap my hands around a squirming bird with the business end of somebody's works sticking out of it. And while it may seem callous and inhumane, I would point out that the poor bird is apparently surviving, so that says something for the resiliency of Columba livia."

Reading THAT, who WOULDN'T want to create a cartoon character based on this new animal celebrity?
Personally, I think if the pigeon isn't in any pain, just let it keep that needle in its head- removing it might cause it to tear something inside and kill it/give it brain damage- even if you sedated it.
Rated mature just cause the very image of a bird with a needle sticking through its frikkin head gives me the goosebumps.

Well, hopefully not permanently.

I once saw a series of photos depicting a lesser bird being attacked by a hawk. I don't remember why exactly, but the attack was interrupted and the predator gave up, but a large part of the other bird's neck (or whatever birds have between their head and torso) was ripped off and I guess it was no thicker than a match. It died soon, but managed to walk around like that for a while. Now THAT looked creepy.
it's no result of a game of dice that Hitchock chose birds for one of his movies, it seems

O_o... Birds are indeed tough. You hit em and hit em, but they don't go down until you've given up...

From how that exert goes on about people seeing this sight, the bird may transcend into legend, up there with Mothman and the Jersey Devil. Yikes, though.
I'm sure your drawing has captured the MY-GAWD-WHY-ISN'T-IT-DEAD look of that bird. Seriously.

slightly disturbing... but the drawing is funny in it's own way and I love the expression on the poor thing's face, haha priceless!

That's creepy and bizarre, and I had just gotten back from a pretty weird Sakura Con 2008 experience when I logged on and first found it. I was too tired to make a comment though. A bit gross, but its true it might hurt the pigeon to have it removed. Perhaps it sleeps standing up? It'd certainly have self-defense during the night.

I wonder how the syringe got there in the first place.

My guess is, the pigeon was rooting around some garbage and got both unlucky(In the sense of the syringe going through it) and very VERY lucky (In the sense that it didn't kill it.)

The face... the face is priceless Love the drawing and the character...
I feel sorry for the pigeon in the story, but I agree; taking the thing out might cause more damage than good.

I'm wondering how it sleeps, since when birds sleep, they kind of tuck their heads up and fluff themselves up to keep warm, but doing that with the needle where it is would cause problems for our little friend here.
Don't know if it can still fly, but that's not so much a problem.

Now that's inspiration.
I just wonder how that pigeon's managed to survive so long with a 3 inch plus needle stuck there. Kind of reminds me of an old comic character called "HookJaw" (a shark with a harpoon stuck through his chin).

I gotta look up this hookjaw character, he and this pigeon would get along well.

Without a doubt.
I had a couple of Action Annuals once, both of them had a Hookjaw strip in. If you can't find him, Google "Action Annual".

Holy crap, both you and the article are insanely awesome.
I'd totally watch a cartoon about a junkie pigeon like that if it had awesome writing.

I don't think ANYONE could ruin a cartoon about a junkie pigeon... Not even the idiots responsible for "Out of Jimmy's Head."

Y'know what's wierd? Over here in Canada, "Out Of Jimmy's Head" is called "Re-Animated".
Not even an awesome name change could save it. And yeah, I'm pretty disappointed over that show. What a huge letdown, reminds me of how mediocre Drawn Together was.

Re-Animated was the name of the movie it was based on.

The movie was advertised as Cartoon Network's "First live action movie" (oxymoron.) and they jumped at turning it into a TV show.

Ahhh, I see.
Honestly, it sounds interesting because it reminds me of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", but I'm willing to bet "Re-Animated" will suck horribly in comparison.
I also can't find "Re-Animated" on youtube since putting in the name just gets me a lot of crappy MS paint animations and Anime Music Videos, etc...

Trust me, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a lot better, cause it didn't have cartoon characters who could only be seen by one person. Also they weren't crappily done flash animations. Someone actually put love into Roger Rabbit.

Yeah. Apparently he gets hit in the head with a toy train, so they replace his brain with the Walt Disney of whatever backwater universe they live in, and keep the "Personality gland" (If there WAS an actual glad that secreted personality, I'd think it'd be dead in everyone on this show.) and now he has someone else's imaginary friends.
I haven't even watched that movie- I'm just summarizing it from what a couple friends said.
