Description
  Madailien woke up with a scream, her hand covering her mouth to muffle it. She could feel her breathing being heavy and she held her stomach. She was about six months pregnant and these nightmares weren't helping her stress of it all.
She heard a knock on the door and she paused. "C-come in." She said quietly. The door creaked open and a familiar figure walked in. Madailien looked up at him and smiled in relief. "Bernard..."
  "I heard you scream. At least... I thought you were screaming. Is everything alright?" He asked her. She shook her head, looking down.
  "Those nightmares that I've been having lately are not helping me at all... This one has to be the worst so far." She said, wiping her tears away. Bernard came by her and sat down in the chair next to her bed. He could see her blue eyes filled with fear and loneliness. Madailien's life was hard and he knew it. He was the only one that she told her life to.
"Do you want to talk about it? It might help relieve your stress a bit." Bernard said, looking at her. Madailien nodded and took a deep breath, thinking about it.
"It... it started off fine. I was at the beach and the waves were calm. The sky was blue and everything was so peaceful... but then there were rapid winds and lightning was striking down into the ocean. That's when you suddenly appeared in the waves, looking off into the distance. Then you suddenly got pulled down into the depths of the sea. I tried to help you. I tried to run into the sea, but I was stuck. I was stuck and helpless unable to help you and it scared me. I..." Madailien couldn't finish the story as she started crying again. Bernard looked at her and hugged her, holding her close to let her know that he was here. He was fine and he wasn't gone into the depths of the ocean.
"Shh... It's okay... I'm right here. I'm right here and there's nothing to worry about." He said. Madailien hugged him back, crying into his shoulder. Madailien slowly started to calm down... but... why couldn't she let go? She knew that she would be alright, but why couldn't she let go? The woman slowly felt herself fall asleep in his arms and her breathing steadied. Bernard wiped away the last of her tears with his thumb and looked at the sleeping woman. Her coffee brown/black hair shimmered in the moonlight. Her face looked so peaceful when she was asleep and he brushed her bangs out of her face. Bernard looked behind him to make sure no one was looking and kissed her forehead, getting up and looking back as he reached the doorway. "I promise you, Madailien... I won't leave your side..." He whispered, closing the door.

The next morning, Madailien woke up and smiled. After falling asleep in Bernard's arms, she had a good dream about being on a peaceful hill under an oak tree looking over Iona. She walked into town, seeing Bernard talking with Simon. She walked over to him and hugged him, making the monk blush. "Thank you." She said. Bernard looked at her and then at Simon who was grinning. Bernard hugged her back.
"You're welcome." He said, smiling. After Madailien left, Simon started chuckling.
"Bernard, you sly dog." Simon said.
"Shut up, Simon. I don't-"
"It's fine if you do. I won't tell, Bernard."
"Alright, maybe I do a little." Bernard said, crossing his arms. He saw Simon have one of his 'are you kidding me?' faces. "Alright, so I do. It doesn't matter. It's not like I can do anything about it."
"She likes you too, you know. I can see it in her eyes." Simon said, looking at the waves. Bernard looked up at Simon. Was he right? And if he was... what could he do about it?
