Description
Megan was running for her life. It was catching up to her. She could feel it drawing closer.
“Keep away!” she yelled, glancing back at the towering darkness that pursued her. “Help me! TJ! TJ, where are you?”
“Megan?”
“Mom..?”
“MEGAN!”
“DAD! WHERE ARE YOU?!”
“Run Megan! Run away!”
“Tell me where you are!” Megan followed the voices. “Mom? Dad? Is there anybody-”
“Megan!”
Megan turned and saw two familiar shapes she hadn’t seen since she was little. Overcome with tearful joy, she ran towards them. “Mom! Dad!”
Suddenly, a large hulkish brute suddenly burst up from beneath ground, blocking Megan’s path. Her parent’s screams were heard as it coiled and enveloped them.
“NO! LEAVE THEM ALONE!”
Despite her size, Megan tried to charge the creature but a swipe from its massive limbs knocked her down. Whimpering, she looked fearfully up at the titan as it glared at her with its glowing inhuman eyes.
“NO! STAY AWAY!”
She tried to shield herself and mentally wished for it to go away. The darkness sneered and reached for her.
Suddenly, a dark equine silhouette leaped over her from behind and spread its wings as it placed itself firmly between Megan and the black creature, protecting her. Its horn glowed and everything was covered in an intense light.
“BEGONE!”The creature let out a horrible roar as everything went white.
-----
Megan awoke with a start and sat upright in the bed she had been sleeping in. Sweat was visible on her forehead.
“That… was different…”
She then felt something wet on her face and realized she was crying. Trembling, she curled up, wrapping her arms around her knees and hid her face as she sobbed.
“Mom… Dad…”
-----
Night had fallen on over Equestria and the party had finally dawned to a close. Pinkie spent the last hour making certain everypony left a smile on their faces and was the last pony to leave. She had hoped Megan would come down and was sad when she didn’t. TJ assured her that everything would be fine tomorrow and that she had nothing to worry about. While it did brighten Pinkie’s mood, she promised to never rest until she had made up for her little prank.
“Phew… That was some party! I’m sure gonna sleep well tonight.” said TJ as he walked up the stairs alongside Twilight, still wearing the lampshade on his head.
“I’m glad you liked it TJ.” Twilight smiled. “It’s just a shame your little friend didn’t come down and join us, even after what happened. Pinkie Pie was really upset about that. I do hope she is alright.”
“She just needed to cool off Twilight. I’m sure she’s just asleep. It’s been quite a day after all. Trust me, I’m sure she’ll feel better in the morning.” TJ smiled.
“I hope you both sleep well. It’s going be a big day tomorrow. Spike, would you be so kind and show TJ to the guestroom?”
“Of course.” Spike saluted. “Right this way Teej.”
TJ followed the little dragon upstairs just as Twilight used her magic to remove the lampshade of his head. She couldn’t help but giggle. TJ was certainly a pony unlike most ponies she had known. At times he acted like an excited young colt on Hearths Warming Eve and was amazed by literary everything, even the most common household appliance was a work of miracles to him.
-Flashback-
“Wohoo! Party down!” yelled Pinkie Pie as ponies danced to the music. “Come on Teej! Shake it!” TJ tried his best but he was unable to. “Come on! You can shake better than that!”
TJ trembled and sweat began pouring off him ‘Oh no! Not now! Not here!’
“Is something wrong TJ?” asked Twilight as she and Pinkie Pie stopped dancing.
“I… *Gulp!* I need to go…”
“Go?” exclaimed Pinkie Pie. “But the party has only just begun!”
“No! I mean I have to go!” TJ clenched his teeth and crossed his hind legs.
It took only a moment before the two mares realized what he was getting at. “Oh… OH! Of course TJ! Of course!” Twilight blushed.
“Well yeah! I mean if you gotta go then you gotta go right?” added Pinkie Pie.
“Can’t hold on much longer..!” TJ wailed.
“Don’t worry. The bathroom is over there.” said Twilight and pointed.
“Just point me to the nearest- Wait. Bathroom? YOU HAVE A BATHROOM?!?”
“Why of course! It’s in the corner right around-”
ZOOM!
“-there..?”
Before Twilight had a chance to finish that sentence, TJ had zoomed passed them and galloped towards the bathroom.
SLAM!
“WOW! He REALLY had to go!” smiled Pinkie.
Twilight rubbed her chin. “Does his behavior seem a bit… ‘off’ to you?”
Pinkie thought for a moment. “Nope, looks perfectly normal to me. You should’ve been there that one time when I had to go. Phew! Wow! That’s was an epic saga for the ages. Let me tell about it.”
“Um… Maybe later Pinkie…” The less she learned about Pinkie’s bathroom adventures, the better. The two mares waited outside until Twilight realized it was too quiet in there. “Um… TJ? Everything alright?”
“Uh… How do I work this thing?”
Twilight and Pinkie shared a dumbfounded look.
-End of flashback-
‘The bathrooms of his world must really be different where he comes from.’ Twilight chuckled silently. ‘Maybe I’ll ask him to tell me about his world in the morning?’ Twilight yawned and proceeded onward to make ready for bed.
-----
“How is she Spike?” asked TJ as they neared the guestroom.
“She’s alright.” replied Spike. “That was quite a nasty mark, but nothing a little first aid kit and some magic can’t solve.” TJ was relived.
“This is your room.” said Spike as he led TJ into the guestroom. TJ was impressed with the décor. There was a desk in one corner, a couple of bookcases for reading and a dish of fresh water and towels for cleaning. And in one corner was the largest and most comfortable bed he had ever seen.
“Wow! What a huge bed!” He quickly jumped on the bed and snuggled against the pillow. “It’s so soft! I’ve always dreamed of sleeping in a bed!”
“Huh?”
“-I mean! I’ve always dreamed of sleeping in a bed like this because mine back home is too hard… (Squee!)” Spike merely shrugged and went about his business. As TJ snuggled the pillow and made himself comfortable, he watched the little dragon as he pulled forth a large wicker basket and placed it on the floor. He then added pillows and some soft coverings. TJ curiously got up just as Spike placed it by the foot of the bed. “What’s with the basket?”
“Oh that’s your friend’s bed.”
“My friend’s.. bed?” TJ cringed. This was not good. “Uh… Don’t you have a spare bed or something?”
Spike scratched his head. “Sorry, but we were only expecting one guest. It’s the best I can manage on such short notice.”
TJ just stared at the basket.
“And besides it’s very comfortable, and I should know because I sleep in one in Twilight’s room.” added Spike.
“I see…” Somehow that didn’t lighten the situation any better. Megan had suffered too much humiliation in order to maintain the whole ‘master and pet’ façade. He could just imagine her reaction finding out that she would be sleeping on the floor like a dog.
“By the way, where is she? Last time I saw her she was resting on the bed.” TJ suddenly realized the dragon was onto something. There was no sign of Megan when they entered.
The two of them looked around before finally noticing the door to the porch outside was open. Looking out they spotted Megan leaning out and looking out over Ponyville. Before either of them could call out to her, they noticed something was wrong. Megan was crying and seemed upset about something.
“Is… Is she alright?” asked Spike concerned. “Should I go and fetch Twilight?”
“No need Spike.” said TJ. “I’ll talk to her. Don’t worry. You just go and give our thanks to Twilight for the room.”
“Okay… Goodnight.” Spike did as TJ requested and left, but not before shooting another concerned look before closing the door. Something seemed off, but he couldn’t quite put his claw on it.
TJ trotted out onto the porch. Megan didn’t move nor flinch. “Wow… Even during night Equestria is really wonderful.”
“Yes… It is…” responded Megan in a solemn voice.
“We missed you downstairs. Pinkie Pie is really sorry for the prank. She just figured you’d get a real kick-” TJ quickly silenced himself before he made things worse. “Ahem… Megan, I’m really sorry about what happened. You know it was an accident right?”
“I know…” replied Megan dryly. “You’re forgiven…”
“Good! Good…” TJ was growing nervous. “You know, you’ve been a real trooper today. I… I’m glad you made it through the day despite all that’s happened.”
“I’m happy to hear that…”
The tone in her voice remained unchanged. TJ was getting worried. Clearly this was more serious than he thought. He glanced back at the basket on the floor and cringed. Maybe she saw it? Maybe she heard everything. “Listen… If it’s about the basket, I-“
“We didn’t say goodbye.”
“Huh?”
“Grandma and grandpa don’t even know where we are. They must be worried sick.”
TJ’s eyes widened as realization hit him dead on. They just left Earth and left everything behind. “I’m so sorry Megan… I didn’t realize-”
“It’s not your fault...”
“Not my fault? You’re here because of me.”
“You didn’t ask me to come along...”
“You went because I wanted to go.”
“You didn’t leave me much choice…”
“You could’ve stayed behind.”
“And worry about you?” Megan soundly shot back, looking him tearfully in the eyes. “TJ, you’re my best friend. I couldn’t just let them take you away and not knowing if you’d ever come back. I just couldn’t do that!”
“You’re my best friend too Megan. And I- no, WE are most certainly not going to be staying here forever. We will get back home, I promise.” Megan was silent before turning her sights back out over Ponyville, sobbing again. TJ bit his lower lip. He knew this had been a trying day for her. No matter what she said, it was his fault that she had forced herself into this. “Megan… I-”
“I had that dream again…”
TJ’s words froze and his eyes widened. “Dream?” His ears dropped as he realized what she was referring to. “Of that day..?”
Megan glanced at him suddenly. “You know..?”
“Just because I couldn’t talk before, doesn’t mean I didn’t listen.” TJ answered solemnly. “Besides, I have that dream too.”
“You do?”
“Not a day goes by when I don’t think about…” TJ closed his eyes, trying to suppress the dark and nightmarish images in his head.
“I should’ve been with them.” Megan sobbed. “I never should have left them.”
“What happened wasn’t your fault…”
“I was worried about you. I couldn’t just leave you. I-” She buried her face in her arms and cried even more. “I never even got to say I loved them!”
Megan suddenly felt something on her left shoulder and noticed TJ as he gently nuzzled her with his muzzle. “Megan… Listen to me. What happened wasn’t your fault.” He gently motioned her to face him. Megan then dried her eyes and hugged him. The mental image of the nightmare that changed everything still lingered in her mind but she ignored it now.
“I remember when I believed I would never smile again. You were there. You cheered me up. You stayed with me. You made me smile again.”
“And you were there for me.” replied TJ. “You refused to let me go. You gave me a family. You made me happy again.”
They both remembered the times when they played and how it lifted their spirits. They remembered how it filled them with new hope and a sense of purpose.
“Someday Teej…” uttered Megan. “Someday we’ll find them. Someday we shall have them back. No matter how bleak and hopeless it looks, we will get them back.” TJ said nothing but nodded.
After hugging for a while, Megan finally let go and sighed. “I’m sorry I worried you Teej. I’m not sad and angry anymore. In truth, I’ve had fun.”
“Really? Even after having me call all the shots? Even after..?” TJ made a kicking motion with his hind leg.
“Hey! It’ll take a lot more than a kick from you to ruin my day.” she laughed as she grabbed his mane and playfully pressed her forehead against his. “You lughead.”
“So, does this mean you’re okay with this?”
“I might as well. I’m grounded anyway. I mean, what am I supposed to tell them? That we found a blue pegasus, met a unicorn bookworm and somehow traveled to a magical land of rainbows and talking ponies?!? They’re sure to believe that.”
“*Cough!* Ahem!”
TJ had Megan’s attention as he playfully blew on his hoof and wiggled his eyebrows, throwing her the obvious hint. Megan giggled. “Thanks Teej, but no. Once we’re finished with whatever they have planned for us, we’ll thank Twilight for a wonderful time, come clean and hopefully she can turn you back to normal.”
TJ didn’t like the sound of that idea. “What? Oh come on Megan! Can’t I keep this? You can’t imagine how wonderful it is to finally talk to you. It’s like my biggest wish come true.”
“You do realize that when and if we get home its right back to the stable? Nothing is going to change. Even if Grandma and grandpa somehow believe us, they will never let you inside the house just because you can talk now.”
“I suppose we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get there.” TJ winked. “Now how about we get ourselves some sleep? Big day tomorrow.”
Megan yawned, finally feeling tired. “*Yawn!* Yeah. You’re right.” TJ flanked her and gently guided her inside.
“You know Megan… Having a talking pony around wouldn’t be so bad. You could always bring me to school and show off that ‘Scott’ kid you always talk about.”
Megan laughed. “As much fun as that would be, I’m afraid you’ll attract too much attention than that talking ‘thingamabob’ of his.”
As they both got inside, TJ guided her over to the bed. “You can sleep here tonight. You’ve earned it.”
Megan then spotted the basket on floor. “What’s with the basket?”
“It’s nothing Megan.” TJ led her to the bed and she climbed in. He then grabbed the bed covers and draped it over her. “Sleep tight Megan.”
“But there’s only one bed. Where will you sleep?”
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll figure something out.” He gently nuzzled her head. “Sweet dreams.”
“*Yawn!* Good night Teej.”
“Good night Megan.”
TJ watched as Megan drifted into a comfortable sleep. He then looked around for any suitable places to sleep. Sadly the only comfortable place available was currently occupied. He thought about asking Twilight, but she was obviously sound asleep by now. He contemplated on sleeping on the couch downstairs, but he didn’t want to leave Megan alone. Not to mention that Spike would ask him why he chose a couch over a comfortable bed.
He then eyed the basket on the floor…
-Flashback-
“It’s very comfortable, and I should know because I sleep in one in Twilight’s room.”
-End of Flashback-
TJ sighed. ‘Well… I suppose there’s no helping it…’

After another long wait, the new page is finally up. Hope everyone had a pleasant Summer
Appearantly both Megan and TJ share a horrific past that, despite all odds, kept them close together. But tonight both will sleep soundly and peacefully (some anyway) and no nightmares will bother them thanks to you-know-who
What adventures will morning bring? And will we ever find out what the occasion is all about? Hopefully we won’t have long to wait.
Until next time!

There is a reason why Megan is remembered as the guardian of the Herd. She loved all of her Little Ponies, even the ones she'd only just met. She loved TJ most of all, though.
