good idea
maybe it doesn't work becouse the gradient begins too early... you should place it a little bit more at the top of the picture.
and the dark grey part... it seems like columns, right? well, maybe you should shadow it to give it a rounded shape...
dunno it's only my point of view but... it doesn't look bad at all
