Whenever I draw horses, I end up drawing their legs to long is there a way to avoid that?

Generally a horse's legs will be about as long as the width of their body at the point of the ribs. So from the tip of the shoulder to the belly will be about as long as the legs should be. Add a little more length for the fetlock and hoof, and there you go. It should be the correct length after that. It gets easier to eye it each time you draw a horse.
