I'm going to have to start saving so I can eventually buy one of your books....I thought I would prefer the natural looking leather, but the blue is gorgeous as well

Love this design. I have a question about the colouring, if I may: I assume that you used leather dye to make the darker areas of the cover - did use black or a darker blue dye, and do you have any tips on selectively dying leather? It's something I'm thinking of trying in future as you get such great effects from it.

Hi and thanks for the nice comments.
As for the dye color variations, I do not use daker color dye.
I apply parafin eax onto my books and buff out the areas to create this look. It takes some time to get use to and to master, but the effect is what I like.
Cheers

Ochiru In reply to BCcreativity [2012-01-31 20:30:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh really? Interesting - does the paraffin wax change the texture or hardness of the leather at all? I shall have to try experimenting on some scraps...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BCcreativity In reply to Ochiru [2012-01-31 21:54:35 +0000 UTC]

after you apply the parafin, you buff it out. the more pressure you apply and the length of time you stay in one area determins the darkness. Basically friction. If you go to long in one spot, it will start to smell like something is burning. If you start to smell that, it means you are tearing through the leather.

oh wow this is beautiful! Your books always inspire me, I'm following a tutorial, but they never look as incredible as yours. Do you use some sort of heat press to get the lines and indentations? I wish our local art store carried book binding supplies, but alas, it is a dying art form.

Actually, how much would it cost for a commission?
Here's a picture if it'd help: [link] and [link]

BCcreativity In reply to Aneko-Sakamoto [2012-02-02 04:57:00 +0000 UTC]

I could make a 7x10 Leather journal with the decorative corners for about $150.00
It would take about two weeks.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aneko-Sakamoto In reply to BCcreativity [2012-02-02 16:41:31 +0000 UTC]

Ok, that sound good.
Would you need to buy the center and corner pieces? 'Cause I was looking at stuff on Etsy and I found pieces that I thought would look cool, I just don't know if they'd work with the press or whatever you use.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BCcreativity In reply to Aneko-Sakamoto [2012-02-02 21:37:55 +0000 UTC]

Send me some links of these pieces you saw. I can either find something, or you can provide it. if you provide, your commission price will go down.
I am not sure if there is a teen titan site with more detailed images or not, but that might help to make it more precise.
Once I have all of the pieces, I will purchase the leather and other supplies needed to produce the book.
Any other specifics that you would need to relay, like what type of paper for the text block, paper for the end sheets, the colors of the head bands, your desired dimensions, thickness of the book (bulk), and whatever else you can think of , for all of this is cruitial to a successful commission.

I ask for $80 down via PayPal, then I proceed.
Turnaround time is two weeks, but sometimes it gets completed sooner.
It depends on the complexity.
Cheers,
~BCcreativity

Here's what I found:

Center piece 1 [link] and 2 [link] I'm tied between the two, but if you use the second one, I was thinking that I could put stones in it. If you can't, I'm happy with the first one.
Corner pieces [link] (Sorry the picture's blury)
And is it possible to have the bookmark dangle-thing? If so, I was thinking of this [link]

For the picture, there isn't really a better one. It just shows that it's white with the crescent moons and circle, so there's a lot of creative liberty. For the width of the book, I was thinking 1 3/4 inches (I'm good with it being 7x10), the same color for the head bead that you used for this book [link] , and how stiff is natural parchment? I want somewhat stiff paper for drawing, but not as stiff as watercolor paper. and could you use this for the end sheets [link] or something like it? (If you can't, this kind of pattern [link] but blue-gray-purple color)

I'm good with the $80 down payment, I should have by the weekend or next week.
Thanks!

The black circular filigree from link one, the corner Pieces, and the bookmark charm I can use. You will have to purchase them from Etsy and send them to me.
The design you want me to use for the end sheets, I will have printed on a thicker stock. I will also use a thicker stock for the text block per your request. I have white and natural parchment. Which one would you prefer. I think the white would look better with the end sheets.
I will use the light moss green thread for the head bands.
When you are ready, send me your email address and I will send you an invoice for the $80 to get started.

Just keep me informed on the status of this and we will be on our way to creating your book.
Cheers,
~BCcreativiy

Ok, I'll buy those this weekend. Should I have them shipped to my house and then send them to you or should I have it mailed directly to you? The white parchment sounds good, and I was thinking of changing the head bead color. I think a slightly darker color would be better, like a dark silver-gray or a blue-gray.

I'll let you know as soon as possible when I get the $80.
Thanks so much,
–Aneko

You should have them sent to you first so that you can make sure they are exactly what you want. The you can send to me to proceed.
I do not have white parchment. I do have a thicker high qualit white drawing paper that I can use for the text block.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers

Ok, I'll let you know once I get them. And that paper sounds good, is it possible to get that ripped, ruffled edge? Not really sure what it's called, but it's ok if you can't, I just think it looks cool.
Thanks ^ ^
