Ok! So for school I'm working on a redesign of the classic comic strip Dick Tracy for the purposes of turning it into a show. These are my design sketches for the greatest villain in comic history, Flattop. I've discovered that he's EXTREMELY fun to draw. The inked versions at the top my teacher didn't like, but the rougher ones on the bottom he did...They're not very different, but whatever....Flattop is the creative property of Chester Gould.
These designs for the character are mine.

So I'm guessing that in your variation of the DT universe Flat Top is closer to his kids. I heardΒ
that in the original he never really had anything to do with his own children.Β

Yeah. ^^ From a professional perspective it's a great juxtaposition of his character that helps to modernize him without really rewriting him. He's a brutal ruthless killer, which is cool and all, but adding the family element makes him a little more real and even a bit scarier.Β
From a fan perspective, I just really like babies.

To me, these look like good drawings for an origin story for Flattop. Like how he goes from bumming around from job to job to becoming the most feared hitman in Chicago.

The way I'd envision it happening is, Flattop's sharpshooting and short temper get the attention of one of the smaller mobsters, who takes him in, classes him up a bit, teaches him how to really leave a message with a kill, and eventually he styles his hair into that signature look, to show his transformation.

*shrug* The assignment was to update the characters to an aesthetic that you believe would be more appealing to a modern audience. I did give him a shorter forehead and a bit flatter skull than the other characters, and added the boonie cap as a nod to the old serials where the actor wore a paper boy cap. So it's not as stylized as maybe it should be, but meh.

I think the sketchier bottom drawings fit more to old Flattop's shtick.

My vivid imagination has him as a sort of villain protagonist in a Justice-League-style cartoon.

Ah. I have those types of daydreams. Though I've also have and actual dream that Flattop and Tracy had been cryogenicly frozen and brought back to life in the future. XD

Yeah. But I don't think he knows the character very well. Flattop supposed to be the first pretty boy villain. In fact, he's based on pretty boy Flloyd. He kept telling me to make him look evil. -.-
