Pretty much, with a few differences, but the magical girl premise is still there.
The main problem with the series is that the mermaid's main attack is a song they sing... and they sing the same damn song... every episode... I mean, it's one thing when you're watching Sailor Moon, because although the attacks are repetative they aren't very long. The attack songs in MMPPP take a good 5 min. So I gave up on the series.

Mermaid! Mermaid! Mermaids are pretty. Lot's of pink! Actually, before I finished reading your comment on the Mermaid Melody inspiration, I was thinking of Chobit's "Ningyo Hime" (Mermaid Princess). I need to stop jumping to conclusions.

Unbelievably adorable. There's something about the lines in this (especially on her hair) that I love.
Overall- a wonderful piece but the lines are just wicked above everything else.
