Description
Lukewarm Gray: Lost Souls / Free Skies - Town Security Contractor Concept DesignTown Security Contractor: Town Security Contractor (TSC) is a common term used for individual mercenaries working for a mercenary company that specializes in providing trained men and women to protect and police a sizeable settlement. The quality of training for TSCs vary and that depends on the company itself, whether they focus on quality over quantity and vice versa. Of course, this also affects their hiring rates. These Private Security Contractors can be flexible, however and are ready to meet the needs and requirements of their client, even if it means cutting costs but not to the detriment of individual mercenaries. Each mercenary is provided standard-issued equipment either purchased or manufactured in-company, if they have the capability for that. Any additional gear, accessories and improvements are either self-purchased out of their own pockets or provided as additional equipment by the client, sometimes to meet certain requirements. A TSC's effectiveness is also augmented whether they were born a wielder, as any other race or even one of the High Threat Races (HTR). And again, of course, certain races and wielder level classification will affect their hiring rates.
Kit-Converted Rail-Accelerated Firearms: A very common client requirement that's also a no-brainer in their hostile and dangerous world of theirs is to have TSCs armed with rail-accelerated firearms. However, rail-accelerated firearms are rather costly and includes the latest tech and engineering. A cheaper alternative is to convert a regular ballistic firearm with a conversion kit that enables it to essentially function as a rail-accelerated firearm. Rail-accelerated firearms combine both the propulsion methods of igniting gunpowder and electromagnetism for a higher muzzle velocity which in turn provides higher firepower - penetration and stopping power depends on the rounds that are used. More importantly, it's a weapon that can threaten most HTRs. However, a kit-converted rail-accelerated firearm comes with a lot of negatives and the worse part is, they're not consistent as that depends on the kit and their quality. While it's possible to craft a homemade conversion kit and depending on the craftsmanship, the weapon is either sufficiently reliable or a ticking hand grenade that you cradle in your arms. The most common problems converted firearms face boils down to having to charge the batteries that provide power to the rail system, having to turn off the power when not in use, having to replace worn out barrels and batteries, burnt out cables, the need to service and repair your firearm constantly, so on and so forth. The real worse case scenario is having a shoddily converted firearm explode in your hands. As long as the converted firearm is reliable enough to work during an intense gunfight, then these downsides shouldn't be a problem if you're stationed in a position that has easy access to supplies and services to maintain your weapon, like a settlement or even aboard an airship. The issues of converted firearms are more noticeable if you tend to travel a lot, like a wandering mercenary. Still, it's possible to craft a converted firearm that's on par with properly manufactured rail-accelerated firearms but that's usually very, very difficult.
This is a concept design of what I call a Town Security Contractor in my story universe of Lukewarm Gray, specifically the time periods of LG: Lost Souls and LG: Free Skies. The idea and concept was by me with Rakharish providing his experience with these kinds of designs while also having liberties with certain aspects.
This artwork is meant to represent some random guy working in some random private security contractor who's contracted to protect and police a random settlement in a world of reemerging civilization two centuries after an apocalypse. Equipped with self-purchased, standard-issued and client-provided gear.
I also wanted to implement the awesome medieval sallet and bevor combination in a sci-fiction setting to drive home the storyverse's combination of settings of sci-fi, fantasy, post-apocalypse with a touch of reemerging, real historical designs and aesthetics incorporated in this futuristic, war-torn, hostile world.
All my thanks to Rakharish for the work he has done on my commission of a concept design for a Town Security Contractor and his patience with me through the project.
