Description Here is the next super hero, going along with my friends from SCAD. The category is X-men with mullets. I know Wolverine doesn't have a mullet, but I couldn't help it. And once you draw a mullet on a guy, you have to make him have really weird proportions and then have him stand around with a jug of moonshine near a broken down old truck with dogs on a hot day.... right?

I started with a Col-erase pencil, then inked it with a pigment liner, then used gouache on it, all on a smooth finish bristol board. Slight touch ups with the always handy colored pencil.

Thanks! One of these days I'll try to tighten up these painterly sketches, but in the mean time, I find I have a lot more fun if I just experiment loosely.

Haha nice. I didn't know your going to Savanah.
What is your in process major/degree?

I'm still looking at art schools to go to. I'm doing 3D animation for film and possibly games.

i graduated in 2006, seems like a looong time ago. my major was sequential art and i almost minored in painting.

for animation, i hear calarts was a good school. a small group of animators i know from SCAD are working in games, i think two people possibly grad students got into Pixar. i say, look at who your favorite animators are and find out where they went to school. a lot of great concept designers went to Art Center in Pasadena... and looking back, i think i would have gone there instead of Savannah.

Yeah, I've looked at Art Center and talked to a few people from there. I know for sure that it's a really strong school for design and illustration. I've heard good things about SCAD but I wasn't so thrilled about the location and the student work I saw.

I do keep hearing greats things about Cal Arts. So I really need to research them more.

If I could just ask you a few questions-

Did you get a degree from SCAD?

How well was the job placement after graduating?

How did you pay for tuition?

What work are you doing now?

sorry for the late response.

I received my BFA in Sequential Art (comics).

Job placement was pretty bleak, but I managed to get some work with a small publisher, which lead to a staff position, but after a year I quit and began looking for work as a concept artist.

I paid for school with a loan, scholarships, and jobs.

I work for a video game company called Rockstar New England as a concept artist. It's a lot less stressful than comics were for me. But I'm still planning on making short stories for myself or for anthology books.

Good luck with your choice! It sounds like you're already on the right track.

No prob. At least you replied.

Hopefully you've paid off all your tuition expenses by now.

That's great that your working for Rockstar. And that you are still following your passion on the side.

Thank you so much for the info. I do hope I'm on the right track.

Oh, yeah, I haven't come close to paying off my loans. It's just a part of my monthly bills now. It's not a huge debt by comparison, but it's kind of annoying.

Honestly, having some college debt is kind of the norm right now, unless your parents planned on helping you all the way.

I really hope I can get financial aid and scholarships that can pay for most of it. I hate the idea of earning money and feeling bad for spending it.

thanks, yeah, i think they're a lil exaggerated, but i kinda figured why not? i've been looking at a lot of animation art and i love the exaggeration.

odd, but my favorite part of this is the foot closest to the camera. that is one beautiful drawn old man foot! what's the smoke/gas from? noxious fumes from the likker?
