Dust and ash choke our lungs, the darkness reaches out its tendrils, embracing us. We offer our men, our elders, our sons as tribute to the things that sleep beneath the earth. We sacrifice with blood, sweat, and flesh. Every soul that ventures into those mines and never sees the light of day is another offering. It’s a known fact, we don’t climb into that dark place without it swallowing a few of us whole. Those that do climb out of that maw turn restlessly in the night, visions of the old ones that slumber below haunt their dreams. They hunger for more.
