dig this set, a strange amalgam of thoughts and styles ..hows it that something can be playful and apocalyptic at the same time..

there's something about this piece exactly that grabs me. I like it. I like the addition of hte white outline to your clouds too - really lifts them off the canvas.
There's also something about the texture of your clouds that reminds me of something from one of my fave animated films. I should figure that out for you - it's sweet tho.
Congrats on the Artguise - are you getting your own show? I've never checked out that gallery, I should go find it.

If you're Graham, then I think I met you at Austin's a few weeks ago. Hallo!

thanks alot, yeah i like using outlines to pull certain things out, i'm talking to the owners at artguise about what exactly will happen with the show, not sure about all the details yet.

you should check them out though.. theres an opening soon (maybe friday the 5th)

yep thats me, i think i may have met you at canterbury once befoe actually.

Yaaa, I just found their webpage. But I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on the 4th so I'm guessing I'll be knocked out all of Friday the 5th. I'm kinda pissed about that. I do want to check Artguise out tho - I just noticed that Martin Wittfooth shows there, and that's too sweet.

Did I meet you at Canterbury? Haha, that's crazy. I know used to go there a lot to check out Austin's theatre stuff, and I think I hung out in the library once...

Ah that's sweet. Ya that was definitly me then - I think I can remember you too.

I don't know Martin Whitfooth actually - just his art. His website's wicked - so well done. You actually know him?!?!
With Cameron Tomsett eh? I thought I remembered seeing that it was a double show - I wonder how their work looked together. Their styles are so different.

ahhh that's really really sweet. It's really nice to hear that even artists as amazing as him still go in for the lifedrawing refresher.
I haven't done any lifedrawing this semester and I can really feel it. I didn't even realize it last semester but lifedrawing at least once a week really keeps your hand warm.

ya same here - it takes me twice as long to get out something that i like nowadays. I'm looking forward to taking a drawing course again next year. I kinda hate them while i'm taking them though - i'm not a huge fan of charcoal

Beaston In reply to krunce [2006-05-04 22:32:22 +0000 UTC]

yep.. i find i have a hard time working out poses in my mind too.. even if i end up changing them from the way the model posed.. i find i can notice little things that make the drawing look better.

if you dont like charcoal try using conte, if you havn't already. you can have a hard line like a pencil or a soft brushlike stroke like with charcoal

or just use a pencil on it's side.. thats what i do.

krunce In reply to Beaston [2006-05-05 21:02:05 +0000 UTC]

ya, my eye is way more sharp when I draw consistently.
Ya, I'm working on dabbling in conte. i think my main problem with charcoal is that i have a habit of getting it all over my face, so it's really just me being a giant dumbass diva. But I prefer a bit of precision - I just got myself some contes and I'm planning on using those more next year.
But I am a big fan of the pencil.

the-moon-unit [2006-04-02 07:33:55 +0000 UTC]

for some reason this one captures me a lot more then some of the others... i think it might be that ambigous patch of brown at the bottom. Gives it a open ended possibility, perhaps thats a mountain behind clouds or something you know? Theres allways been ambiguity in these works but this one just seems a lot more.. crafted. Its hard to put my finger on but none the less, love it mate

HAH! thats funny that you said that. i was painting over another peicethat i was unhappy with .. as i reache the end of washing over i thought id leave this patch just cause it looked cool.

hahaha.

how long does a painting like this take you? how much do they sell for?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beaston In reply to vestrit [2006-04-02 01:04:16 +0000 UTC]

this one took abiut 3 hours.. it was a smaller one. i'm actually working on a new way to price my work. i'll be working with the gallery owners on prices for the overall show to make sure all the pieces aren't all over the map. the price is going to reflect the size and compare to the other pieces.

soooo, long story short.. id say 275$(canadian) off the top of my head... but it may be different once i price all of them

i really like ur stuff.
the warm colors, the cartoontouch.
very reduced, but so much athmosphere in it.
i bet ur work looks even more impressive in reallity.

thanks alot. i appreciate it.. its hard to get the same feel from paintings in a photo.. but i try to play up the colours a bit to compensate
