Description
This is one of the illustrations for "Birgit", a novel about death. It's told by a little girl whose sister is dying. I uploaded the cover some months ago, but I forgot to upload some of the inner illustrations, so here it is. The novel is very realistic so I tried the illustrations weren't. The progress of the illness is symbolized by the flowers invading the girl. Even if the approach is pretty poetic it was pretty hard to do. I didn't want the images were soft or sweet. I was doing well, but somehow, at the middle of the work a kind of somber mood touched me. Excellent. I love that you have connected the illness and suffering to beauty. It's horribly sad, but the idea that there is beauty in any emotion is good.
Perfect choice of colors, just enough warmth to bring out the blue, and not so bright as to be overwhelming. And you have kept just the right amount of harsh edge to both the visual style, and the emotional message.
