A few months ago this sweet little wire-haired terrier started appearing near our home. She'd roam during the day but she would always come back near our home. For some reason she seemed especially curious about me, although as soon as I would approach her, she would run. I love animals, so naturally I tried to make friends but she just wasn't that sure about me.
We live in Brasil and it can get very hot during the day. One day I filled a container with some nice cool water and followed this little dog to where it was hanging out at the time. She was laying under a shade tree just the next street over. Well, when she saw me coming, she ran. I just put the water down where she had been. She gulped the water down immediately-almost the whole container. NOW she was my friend. She stayed almost constantly near our door and eventually she let me touch her and then pet her.
I eventually let her into our home. What a sweetheart. Our other two dogs didn't really accept her at first but eventually they did. We named her, Lisa. We had been afraid to let our other two dogs out by themselves because they would go all over the place and sometimes into other people's homes if the door was open. Lisa did not do this. She would just go out for a while nearby and come back shortly. I could take her out without a leash and she would walk with me. Lisa seemed to show our other dogs (Jujuba and Marilyn) how to walk outside without a leash and stay with me also.
Recently little Lisa must have been let outside while I was not here. As often happens here in Brasil with pets, Lisa did not make it home. I do not know but I think maybe she was hit by a car or truck. Lisa was getting quite old so who knows. People drive too fast down these little residential roads a lot of times. I don't know, but I hope she did not have to suffer and it was instant if she was run over.
All I know is that I really miss this little sweet dog that appeared out of nowhere one day.
We will always love you and remember you in our daily lives. Thank you for coming into our lives
