Description

So, in his latest Twitch stream, David Goodrich (one of the many developers on Twisted Metal: Small Brawl) dropped a new fact about that game’s version of Warthog. While he already stated a while ago that Warthog’s buggy design was originally meant to be Grasshopper’s, and it was only given to Warthog due to time constraints, he just brought up in the Axel stream that the planned design for Warthog was actually going to be an old WWII Sherman Tank. And you know me, once I find out about scrapped stuff with this game, I HAD to draw it out…...and this may be the best Small Brawl Warthog I’ve ever done.

While they are not colored, the machine Guns are meant to be orange tipped BB Guns, similar to what I did with my Mime art a while back. I struggled for a while to figure out how to incorporate the tank turret into the special, since his special is three missiles, but then I had this amusing idea: His turret would launch his special, but every other weapon. Basically, all the pickup weapons (Missiles, Napalm, Roman Candles, etc.) would fire out the barrel of the tank, with the tanks barrel changing position depending on the weapon being launched (i.e. the barrel would be in the middle for missiles and would raise up for napalm and Roman Candles). For the special weapon, I noticed when looking at actual RC Sherman tanks that quite a few are paired with a toy soldier in the top hatch, and that gave me another idea to add to the toy aesthetic, that being that the 3 Patriot Missiles are launched by a rocket launcher wielding toy soldier that pops out the hatch at the top of the Turret.

I had a lot of fun drawing this idea out, let me know what you think about the art and this possibly scrapped idea
