There were probably other, less self-destructive methods of defeating a small insectoid army, but none of them created a bitchin' lighting tornado.
Totally worth it.

I'm pretty sure she could've electrocuted them in the tornado without her in it? Maybe, I don't know.

Whoa...
She will be remembered. She may be gone but the memory will never fade. So long as she is never forgotten, she will live on. Therefore, though she is not an alicorn, she will live on forever.

This feels like a Mary Sue comic. A character comes in, shows herself to be better at everything than the actual main cast, her greatness relegates all other characters into supporting roles, she's never shown as having any flaws or weaknesses.
Yep, Mary Sue done through a canon character.

Not really. This comic is less about Super Sunset Shimmer and more about how everybody reacts to having Super Sunset Shimmer.
More importantly, nobody likes what she is doing. Twilight is only going along with it to minimize the potential damage.

Please, by the rigid standards of internet posters, canon Twilight Sparkle herself is a Mary Sue. So are Harry Potter and James Bond.
If I had any complaints, it would be the "Hard Mares making Hard Decisions" Jingoism, and not a nebulous term of contempt for amateur fiction that's been rendered useless by overuse.

Except that Twilight is rife with flaws. There've been entire episodes devoted to them. She's failed plenty of times, she just hasn't allowed those failures to be the end.
Also, you're going to have a pretty hard time convincing me or anyone else that Twilight's presence pushes the actual main cast into the background since, you know, she's part of the main cast and all; and doesn't push the rest of the cast into the background, hence the "Mane Six" moniker.

Indeed. It wouldn't work if FIM was instead titled "Twilight Sparkle and the Bearers of Harmony" or something else that suggest the "main star" and a subordinate "supporting cast" (ex "Wolverine and the X-Men").

"She's failed plenty of times, she just hasn't allowed those failures to be the end."
Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.

This. All of this. The excuse: Alternate reality. Anyone can use the vectors to make such stories possible. Glad I haven't been following this closely, it truly -is- fanfiction. Can't wait for the next season to pop all these headcanon's. AT least they didn't go with Nightmare Rarity.

Those who fight monsters often end up becoming monsters themselves.
I mean, I understand her reasoning (and that this is an alternate universe where Chrysalis is evil), but the Ursa was mostly harmless!

"and that this is an alternate universe where Chrysalis is evil"
Right, because she TOTALLY wasn't in canon, what with her abject glee over watching the citizens of Canterlot flee in terror from her subjects, saying that this was what she had dreamed of since she was small. Or imprisoning Cadance in a cave for who knows how long and brainwashing Shining Armor so she could, y'know, conquer Canterlot. Or imprisoning Twilight in the same caves and taunting her about it. And that's just from the show; in the comics she kidnapped the CMC as a bargaining chip, and KILLED those lovecat things, even killing one of them IN FRONT of the CMC, and tried to kill Twilight and her friends.
Yep, TOTALLY "just trying to feed her people" and not evil at all.

Hey, I meant it's an AU from my universe, which itself is an AU from the show.
and to be fair, the comic's canon is up for interpretation
(Sorry, I RP-comment as my OC, so sorry for the confusion)
Plus, Mom wasn't well in the head during the attack on Canterlot.

I take it the Chrysalis in your own fanon eventually found redemption?

PrinceStaghorn In reply to Jarkes [2014-12-07 22:31:56 +0000 UTC]
Kind of...
She and Cadance knew each other prior to the wedding, and she was actually invited.
However, when changelings feed on too much pure love without an influx on other positive emotions, they get "Love Sickness", making them megalomaniacal and slowly getting more and more insane. Chrysalis went a little loopy and made a last-minute plan to take over Canterlot after being there for a few days before the events of her two-part episode and catching love sickness.
"Redemption" isn't exactly what happened, and it took nearly two years before she gained the full trust of Celestia and Luna again, but now things are significantly better, though racism still appears sometimes (Some ponies never change)
