Changelings are insect-like creatures, therefore they are different to mammals in a lot of ways:
1. There are few types of insects that actually take care of their "children".
2. Most of the insects are born as larvae, not as babies.
3. Monarchic insects actually take care of their "children", but the queen does not do that, the worker ones are the ones who are in charge of the newborns.
4. Monarchic insects usually create structures where they live in a very efficient and ordered way, not in caves.
I'm just saying, that's what I know.

To me, Changelings aren't monarchic insects. They're just normal insect-pony hybrids to me, but born as baby-larvas. They make a chrysalis around them when they are finish in 2 minutes.
