I think of the song by Tears for Fears, "Mad World" when viewing this piece and think of the movie "Toys" 1992 as the stylistic approach of this piece which reminds me of eerie child-like wonder in colorful saturation, which in my mind attributes to 1990-91 experiences of the world I personally opened my early innocent perception to; as childhood is a dance between fear and exuberance 

Wonder and innocents caged in a mind of warm tranquil exuberance with the massive heart of an explorer, give rise to strange passions.

Humming birds have large eyes in proportions compared to their bodies. 

Large eyes are seen in a person as warmth, passion, wonder, and innocents in personality

Humming birds are seen as bringers of joy, love, good luck, and as healers 

Effects of a full moon are attributed to strange and insane behavior

Personally, I recognize few things sadder than a bird caught in netting

Also, as I enjoyed viewing this piece and doing a bit of research it also reconnected me with the Tears for Fears album "The Hurting" which is a trip.

That's really cool. Those eyes are peirceing into my soul. It gives me a feeling of erie wonder.
