My WIP take on the infamous Jersey Devil .
This is my current pain in the rear... I mean personal just-for-the-fun-of-it custom. Started it back in November 2008, and since I can only work on him in between commissions and the day job and larger orders and home responsibilities, he's taking FOREVER to do ( doesn't help that I'm being ANAL about detailing... ).
I first came up with the idea from KarRedRoses NJ Devil custom contest for the 2008 NJ Pony Meet. There was NO WAY in heck I was going to be able to even START work on the custom before the meet, so I figured I would make it something I could work on in my own time.
As you can see, I have finished ALL of the sculpting, FINALLY, did the base white coat, and painted the inside of the mouth and stained and detailed his teeth.
I plan to have him totally finished before June 2009, and if I actually land a table in the artist alley, he will be on display at my table in the artist alley at AnimeNEXT 2009.

I love the detail in the fur! Really impressive, and the wings look very smooth. What type of clay did you use? I really like the creamy white color of it.

I actually used a purple Sculpey, and blue Apoxie Sculpt! I always paint my customs a base white, to treat it like a fresh clean canvas.

how much do you mix of each? Like half and half or 1 to 3?

Half and half. I usually take a small ball of one and try to make a ball of the other to match the size of the other, so I get an even mix. Then I roll the two together in my palms for about 2 minutes, until the color is consistent.

SCORE! He's looking pretty darned fine, I think, and I can't wait to see the final painting of him.

The painting is coming along on him! Did his base skin and foreleg scales colors, plus the claws last night. Moving onto his horns, tail and POSSIBLY eyes tonight while I get more prints made up.
