I FEEL THAT. A lot of my characters started out as jokes/parodies and then I fell in love with them. One character was inspired by an April fool's prank my mom played, another by a pun, one by those moths that mimic bird poop... The list goes on. And then inevitably they go on to become beloved characters.

Oh gosh, I do.... I could never really afford one or the upkeep of one, I'd get such choice paralyasis on top of it! (what character would I wanna make?? What face is perfect enough?? I get so fussy like if they're TOO real it stresses me out but some are SO pretty and ugh!! and don't even get me started on clothes??) I adore the BJDs with really interesting/exaggerated proportions (like fairies?) or diverse bodies *__* Mikhalia is super cute omg!! I think the one I was inspired by was Enaibi Doll Arielle or something similar! For the time being I curb the craving with monster high dolls haha!! they're a bit easier to customize for a novice like me if I wanna go that route |//D;

The good news is that there are cheap ones available ($100 for one that is 43cm/16inch (particularly ResinSoul because OMFG THEIR LEGS <3)) and the market is expanding when it comes to crazy awesome proportions, skin tones, and the like. And yaaaas clothes are amazing~ I live vicariously through my dolls in terms of fashion. XDXD And it feels *so* good to make your character into a doll. You can physically hold them and dress them up and pose them... it feels a little bit like they've come to life. Not that I'm enabling or anything... *coughtotallyamcough*

Ahh lucky! There's literally no way I could settle on a single character to dollify, I'm terrible at playing favorites and my wallet just would not allow such a thing when I collect so many other things already.. OTL I'm so happy you can do that with your OCs though I can only imagine how much fun it is!! ATM I am sticking with MH/EAH (for customizing) and like.. felt dolls, for my numerous children that don't have doll proportions.
if I had to go largish doll, Doll Chateau's 1/4 Bella really caught my eye because of her cute elongated proportions and droopy face, and she wasn't... too expensive, I guess?? Compared to some of these... 
AHHH NO MORE MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT I GOT ATTACHED IN LIKE 2 DAYS LOL -rolls away- it is lovely to look at though, I'll give them that!

I'd love to see more of your doll customizing! I know you did Lalaloopsies, which are super cute~ Monster Highs are just so stylish and adorable, I hate the hate they get. ;3; My heart is set on the cute moth girl I've seen, if only she wasn't yellow though! XD It seems the market for dolls are changing into more diverse body proportions, which I'm excited about. There's a super tall Barbie doll coming out soon and I'm just like... omfg... tall girls... gimmie!
Oh! Bella is amazing~ Doll Chateau is just such a beautiful company. I'm in love with their spider girl, Elizabeth. Her face and her hands and her little spider body... nngh! I wanna save up for her, make her into a cute wolf spider or something. I have enough of them around my house for inspiration. *laughs... nervously* Think of your tastes are refined? XD At least you aren't into the super super expensive ones? Like, the thousands of dollars ones. @_@ *would never feel comfortable playing with something as expensive as a car*
Dollzone is so wonderful! I have one and she's just my sleepy little dreamer. X3 Her hands are so freakin' cute. <3 <3 Double jointed seems to be the norm nowadays along with slender bodies. Waaay back when the hobby first started, MSDs were considered like children and so their bodies were chubbier, which was nice, but single jointed and posed horribly and just, eugh. Now the chubby dolls are sexy with double joints~
(If you like tiny doll fairies, Soom has a REALLY cute collection too. Maple! <3)

Definitely heart breaking, I was feeling a tug for a while over that Ivy. I can't believe you have one! I keep telling myself if I still want it for christmas, maybe I will. Or next christmas. I wanna really test my endurance on this one 
I'm also soooo glad they are doing double joints more, esp for the curvier bodies. It makes all the difference in posing because they're not all meaty and muscle like real bodies. You're right though, tbh, 260-360 is pretty reasonable compared to the 1k ones, oh I would just die thinking about breaking those, and how much food money that'd be ah.... Also, I LOVE the new barbies. I wish the new bodytypes were more articulated (I'm such a tool for the articulation) but I was so tempted to buy one of them just to support the cause. @_@;;;
Actually, through all this BJD talk you did get me digging around my pinboards and yt faves and dA faves for all the MH doll custom tutorials I had hoarded some time ago. I have a lalaloopsy custom still waiting for me to start, and I was in the middle of rehairing a MH doll to become one of my MH ocs.... I need to invest in some sealant before doing faceups (Dark you expensive MSC, why you gotta be the best?) but I might give that another go this summer... I'd really like to explore that! Then if I'm any good at faceups, I could do Ivy's faceup and bodyblush myself and save a bit of money... At least, that's the big dream.
