I work with watercolors like I do with any other media. Most people tend to go for the watery look, but I use them much thicker, like a guache. I work in one area at a time as opposed to doing washes.
I learned in traditional painting (mostly working from observation) to paint in the big areas of value and color, and NEVER to start on detail until the entire canvas is covered.

Ah, that's helpful. Yeah, I agree that most people go for the thin, translucent look.
And nope, I just had to start working with real paint for school (I never took Art before), so I just needed some tips, since my adventures with watercolours have failed miserably.
