Description
High Poly version of the new Sniper Rifle I am working on.Now I'll start working on the lowpoly, unwrap that and texture it.
I will hopefully have the lowpoly up here in a few days!
I used Maya 2008 Extension 2 for this model, and it took me about 2 days.

2) That's true for almost all revolvers. But there are a few 'gas seal revolves' like the 1895 Nagant that close the cylinder gap before they fire.

since the artist wasn't responsible for the design but only the model im not sure if you are barking up the right tree
you should be telling me i am wrong

didnt know who is responsible for the design... The model is ok, design not.

this is generic, IRL every shot fired from it would be lethal to the person wielding it.

IRL you wouldn't make a weapon like this.

You are a beast when it comes to hardsurface modeling. If you ever have a tutorial for sale on such a project, i would purchase . Love the site btw.

intrsting oncept for a revolving sniper rifle, (youd have to have a sealing chamber design, there where a few revolvers with that set up, and it would work fairly well for a sniper rifle) but side from one or two tiny technical things, it looks quite belivible

Nice work. looks beautiful.
But as a lot of people said, there are a lot of functionnal issues.
Hot gasses, tiny metal elements in your face and firing arm, I hadn't even thought about that.
But the problem I see would be that your vest could be stuck in the barrel when you pull the trigger.
I've already seen snipers with barrel like that in Borderlands : their barrel is just before the trigger so that they look more like a revolver with a longer cannon and a butts.
The problem about the bullet that can't come from the barrel to the canon is that there is no place to put the trigger mechanism between the trigger and the chamber.
Anyway, great work. continue like this.

the model is great! it wouldnt be able to fire, though. the drum isn't in line with the barrel.

Might want to give credit to the original concept artist. Right now people seem to think it's your own design
It might also save you from all the flack about this rifles flawed design.

I like it. mind if i can get some of your models, including this one, to use in my fps. I've been making a demo which wont be released for at least a month. Credit will be given if you send me the model.

Very nice, as others have said, from an artistic standpoint, it's an awesome rifle. I'd love to see a sniper rifle use a revolver-type loading mechanism in a game.
Unfortunately, as others have said, putting your face next to a revolver chamber is like asking for hot gas and metal to be poured onto your face. Especially since it uses a stock that requires you to put your face right next to it. I think fixing the position of the chamber or changing the clip type would make it more realistic.
Of course, the most badass things are usually also the most unfeasible.

Just have to say first, that I like the concept you have here. Though after some experience with firearms, there are a few small things you could add/alter to make it more practical.
-A fore-grip of some sort, so the player/character can carry the weapon when not lying prone. (if necessary)
-Sketchbook had a good point about the barrel and the revolver chamber not quite lining up. It looks like your trigger assembly is in the way. Then again it just might be hard to tell.
-You might have been waiting until the texturing stage for this, but there doesn't appear to be any firing mechanism. I might suggest extending the stock slightly to accommodate a firing pin behind the top chamber.
-I'm not sure if you intend the cylinder to be removed when reloaded or if the shells will be ejected and reloaded individually. If the latter, an ejecting rod slightly in front of the cylinder might be needed.
Overall a really well done design though, I look forward to seeing it textured.
I think you've gained a new watcher.

Very nice but..
1: Overly complex reloading method that would take too long.
2: Bad Ergonomics. I would hate to have to hold that grip for firing, makes the Barret I used to use look like a long lost lover on a velvet pillow...
3: The Eyepiece is too high over the barrel, I can excuse this however as it looks like its a screen rather than a modern scope.

yeah that it fairly high haha. whats the max cryengine II or Unreal engine can handle do u know?
or would u be using a low poly model? (if u where to put it in a mod)

beere In reply to foscus [2009-04-25 00:03:51 +0000 UTC]
I'll make a lowpoly for it with a normalmap.
I don't know the max polycount the engines can handle tbh. Cryengine can handle a LOT of polys though.

hmm, do you mind if i pick your brains about texturing? as im kinda just learning myself and you seem to have it pretty much all figured out the 2 links below are what ive textured sofar and im working on a MASSIVE ship right now and its proving difficult :\ nothing seems to look right
thanks mate

This is a great piece of work!
A couple thoughts, however-
1. How exactly is the round loaded into the chamber? there's not a spring loading mechanism I can see(as with conventional rifles)
2. Where does the shell eject after firing?(unless it stays in the magazine-which would solve problem 1, but you'd get burned pretty bad-solve-put the mag forward of the trigger mechanism)
3. Where does the non-firing hand go? Usually, it rests over the trigger mechanism (especially on weapons with bipods/tripods)or underneath the barrel(which would be really awkward with a bipod)
Just a couple nitpicky things- clips for a carrying strap? Also, it would be really weird trying to spin that magazine...Esp from a prone firing position. Ummmm... there's no apparent recoil damper, the stock doesn't seem terribly comfortable...and.... the bipod housing looks really bulky.
Overall, it's an awesome piece of work.

Haha, I have no idea to be honest. I just tried to follow the concept as closely as possible.
Yeah, it is kinda small, but I tried not to make it bulky.
