I finally have a reference sheet for my avatar/character/fursona/etc.I made the sculpture out of model magic, with wire and aluminum foil for the armature. Painted with acrylics.
The model magic was fun to mold with but it is extremely hard to smooth down and it does not take details well. That said, this little critter still serves well as a colour reference.

This is an adorable piece and the character design is awesome. I would recommend trying sculpy, it stays soft till you cook it and can be cooked in a conventional oven. Its really good for fine details I think you'd enjoy it. You can by it white and paint it or get it in colors.

Aside from its inability to hold details, the hardest thing about the model magic was having to use the whole package in one go, so I ended up squishing some parts of it while trying to smooth others. Finally, I just set it down so not to cause anymore damage XD
