#28, "Sorrow", for #100ThemeChallengers

At the core of it all, the Lord of The Rings is one of the most poignant and bittersweet love stories ever written. Elrond declared that his beloved daughter the Lady Evenstar shall not diminish her life's grace for nothing less than the King of both Gondor and Arnor: the King of all the West in MiddleEarth.

Thus it was that all of Aragorn's long and solitary labours, even until the very end when he rode up to the Black Gates and summoned the Enemy, declaring that the King had returned - all of it he did for the love of one woman... or elf, rather.

And that elf, choosing to cleave to the Dunadan, forsook the Grey Havens and embraced the Doom of Men.

And at last when King Elessar laid himself down to sleep at Rath Dinen, never to wake again - she went away from all she had gained with Aragorn, and journeyed back to Cerin Amroth, and made there her green grave.

hahah i was just talking with a guy yesterday about how lord of the rings is one of the most faithful book-movie translations we've seen in a long time. nice coloring in it, it really helps convey this heavy, sad feeling

Awesome! Viggo really grew on me too, I can't picture anyone else now for Aragorn. My only peeve with the movie was Faramir. He was pure in the book, he never wanted even one glimpse of the Ring.

I love the magic of this picture. The wandering figure here associates with a soul or a ghost, it's like the nature itself keeps memories of Great Love.
Tolkien's love story is one of a few that really touched me.

I longed for the book for 15 years, since I was 7 years old. I finally got to read it years later, when the movies came out and there was greater interest and more reprinting. LOL
I still re-read it every year. ♥ But I love The Silmarillion even more than LOTR.

And I heard about LOTR only in connection with movies and rush to read it immediately. Maybe I was just young and sensitive but I practically swallowed the book. A couple of of years later I tried to read The Silmarillion, however, I think I wasn't in the right mood. I'm still thinking about returning to it.

This is must as I pictured the scene would be. This picture is so enchanting. I love the soft glow coming from her.

Meh..she could have split her immortality with Aragorn. You know, instead of eternity, they get to live 100 years and die together

That's just what she did, didn't she! In fact they had 140 years together. ♥ And in the the movies she says - "I would rather have one lifetime with you than face all the ages of the world alone."

Yeah..it was so sweet of her. The line reminds me of the one from Pocahontas. The guy said to her, "I'd rather die tomorrow that to live 100 years without knowing you." D'awwww...

You know, I still think Aragorn could have shaved off that beard at his crowning. The book said he was supposed to look handsome and different.

...and and he should've kissed Legolas

These two are also first cousins many many generations removed. And both have the blood of gods, and elves, and men. ♥

I think it was the Flash interface - no tablet pressure recognition. The Java option has that option, but there is no playback.

(Awww Princeling! That's happy news, artistically speaking. But maybe sad news for your Human! Be sure to keep him company okay...)
