Yeah, apparently sewing isn't the only talent of everyone's favorite Quincy.
Disclaimer: I am not a professional hairdresser, nor had I received any formal training so follow my advice at your own risk! This is just what I've learned over years of cosplaying, making mistakes and learning from them.
Okay, so over the time we've been sharing our cosplay photos online, we've gotten countless questions on how we style our wigs, so I thought of making this silly yet (hopefully) educational tutorial to guide fellow cosplayers with wig styling.
In this tutorial, Ishida Uryuu will teach you how to customize a wig for cosplaying Uchiha Sasuke! May also be applicable for other characters with similar hairstyles like like L from Death Note or Jin Kazama from the Tekken series. We had so much fun making this tutorial, and we can only hope that you guys somehow learn something from it.
The wig used was a monotop (no artificial scalp) wig with synthetic fibers. We got it from a local wig seller; they don't do international shipping I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info - I've read tutorials about coloring, wefts, and making "antenna bangs," but not one on the actual cutting part yet, so I'm glad to have this as reference.
Hopefully Temari's spike-tails will work on similar properties as the duck-butt; I'm depressed at seeing so many Temari cosplays with wavy-haired, limp pigtails 
(P.S. Am I the only one lol'ing over the Akatsuki hairdresser's coat? XD)

Hahahha yes indeedys - hair so sharp and spiked that she needs not her tounge nor her fan to defeat an enemy XD.
I'm an all-or-nothing sort of person when it comes to cosplay, especially in the details, so I'm definitely going to at least TRY
I've never tried sewing in wefts before, but I have a Miho (from Megatokyo) cosplay that I'm working on sewing wefts into for the super-long bangs right now. Hopefully that experience will be good practice before the spike-tails of doom come along.
Actually, I hadn't seen that tutorial before, so thank you! (And thank you for the salutations XD) I have read Katie Blair's wonderful tutorials but this one is nice in particular because it mentions the odango things - Katie Blair has mentioned them, but not made a tutorial on them, I think. The info is good for future reference
(And yay! I was cracking up already reading this, but then I paused for a second and was like "Waitaminit...that coat...LOL" XD. Now we just gotta figure out who it belongs to/where our dear Quincy got it...)

Hehe, good job! Working with a wig head (also for a Sasuke wig), I've found for crazy anime spikes sometimes it's easier to hang the head upside down or at the an angle so gravity does a lot of the work for you. ; )

Generally, yes. Most wigs can't take a lot of heat (unless of course, it's the heat-resistant type). But you'll have to do it if you decide to spike them this way. Aqua Net takes a while to air-dry. The hairspray also kind of ruins the fibers anyway. But if the wig is meant for spiking, you won't need it to be soft and silky anymore.

Sorry for randomness but I have to say that:
I don't know if I ever would need the teachings of that tutorial, but I really love to read it over and over xD. It's so... Awesome with all the nice extra-advices ("Try not to get too distracted by random shiny things" Ahahaha :'D) Gotta luv it.
