The origine is the same, pu some event are different. THe politicale or mediatic reaction to some event is bit different.
The war end with an US victory.

Yep, French.
And to be clear: this part show that "yes in certain condition US could have win the war, but it cost a lot". To much people are killed (especially vietnamese), the image of the US in the world is damaged, the US economy is damaged to. And this just to avoid a communist vietnam. It and with a Vietnam is close to the US but not a puppet state and which care of is interest before all. The only thing won by the US is that the country is not communist.

It would be too long to explain how the war is won by the US, but believe me it's not just for the fun of see america win in Vietnam. A lot of reserch have been done.

And this book must first be read as entertainment not a political manifsto. Even if I try to show via an alternate history to show some dark part of history and policies.

In this book there is few war that are totaly absurd. IOTL French and American war in indochina were absurd and even criminal.
I'm one of those french who think that colonization was a crime against humanity and trying to avoid communist governement in Indochina was not our business.
Every serious and objective people interested in the french war in Indochina know that the war have been triggered by the french bombing of Haiphong and not the viet minh.
