So if anyone has taken a look through my gallery they have a seen a pic like this before called Red Iron. However, that one was done in 3DS Max and well I didn't really like max to much and I was wandering if blender could keep up with max on a render like this. So this is just a blender remake of which I am quite proud of, Blender seemed to make a render that looked just as clean as the max render if not better. Hope you enjoyBlender 2.68a

Quite welcome! So from your experience, what's the jump like from max to blender? I always hear that max is really awesome and the best. haha

I started off blender. Like you I had always heard that max was the God of 3D so I tried the switch over, but I one of the first things I noticed is that the modeling and everything was different. Max does not have a very large helper base. So I am assuming you are a blender user. When you have a question or something you want to learn you hop up on youtube, and you can probably find at least two or three different videos on how to do whatever you need, whether it be node set up, rendering, lighting, etc. someone out there has put something up about it. Max does not have that, since you can learn max in schools as a profession, there is no need to post videos, so self learning is very difficult. As far as just modelling, it is very different from blender, every and any hot key i had to re learn it it was very complicated to do anything. What I learned is that max is very powerful though, it does not crash, one of my favorite things though was it's autosave, like if you exit forgot to save Max got you loll. But all in all you can get many of the same results with blender that you can in max. The reason max is better is it's ability to interact with a lot of outside programs, such as auto tree makers, programs that can create entire cities with the click of a button, modeling with grid maps. There are a lot of ways to make modelling and rendering faster and easier on max, you can get the same results with blender, but it would take more time and effort. So I stuck a blender user, and if you are a hobbyist you would not really any great benefit from switching to max, but if you plan to do this a profession your going to need to know max, maya, etc. because that is what the industry uses, but chances are you will learn it in college.

Β Oh yeah, also, I have seen that Freddie Wong and Brandon J make videos now on how to use max! I found it cool, but pretty much useless because I don't have it... haha.

Yeah I looked at that too lol but it's kind of basic and doesnt really go into difficult complicated stuff. If you want max i know how you can get it for free.... and get this. it's legal lol for real i was like this is awesome lol thats how i got it cause i most def could not afford it lol

Oh sweet! I could definitely use that after I get into making games with my team.

I don't use Blender, but I've heard is holds up very well against much more expensive programs like Max

Haha Yeah I tried out max, it was nice, but it was so different from what I was used to it was just frustrating and it was on trial no way in the world I could pay for it. So I have found blender can make just as nice a render, it is a great program for people like me who don't have the computer power nor the money to take full advantage of max and maya, but still want good clean renders

Sorry I haven't been replying to anything lately... I haven't been able to do any writing, drawing, or designing lately. It kinda feels like "what right do I have to be on a site for artists when I can't do art?"

I feel you, I took like a year break just because well school was overwhelming and drawing was becoming frustrating as I tried to conquer the great hands and feet problem lol so you know. So I will be coming back now hopefully with more drawing and 3D stuff. I do have to work on getting a better computer if I ever want to get better at 3D

I am feeling a lot better, of course things in life still happen, but now that I have taken a break it makes drawing a lot more enjoyable.

Hey, do you ever play MMORPGs? If so, have you ever tried "Mabinogi"?
It is one of my FAVORITE MMORPGs and I have been playing it on and off since about a week after Open Beta ended...in 2008. They are always updating with new stuff, the most recent update was...2 days ago?
