I've seen quite a few artworks created of Ryuk, but this one, so far, is quite haunting. It portrays Ryuk's creepiness very well. It really has a great impact and your vision is quite amazing.
As far as originality goes, Ryuk is nothing new, and fan art isn't really a new idea, but that just goes along with my beliefs that originality is ultimately dead. However, I did find it to be unique.
Your technique is not one that I prefer, however, it goes along with this piece very well. You have great potential and you will keep on improving as time goes on.
Just remember to keep up the great work, and I look forward to new pieces from you.
