John Buscema estarΓa orgulloso de ver lo bien que se perpetua su estilo en tus manos. Cada pΓ‘gina o dibujo tuyo que veo me parece mΓ‘s grande que el anterior.

Β Β  Looks pretty good.Β  You've got to give Frank Thorne a hand for her design.Β  She's one of those iconic characters that I think should never be tampered with.

(I've been working on a modest Sonja sketch myself, which could go up within a day or two...)

I'm glad you like it, thanks very much! However much as I love Thorne's work it is in fact my compatriot Esteban Maroto who deserves credit for designing her outfit.

Β Β  That fact must've slipped my mind.Β  As a boy, I was more focused on Thorne's work on the title that Marvel Comics published in the late 1970s, and his self-promotion around the time may have had a hand in influencing that.Β  I do know now that he only followed in the wake of others in taking up the artist's role on Red Sonja, and that the character herself is more of an amalgam of minor characters created by Conan creator Robert E Howard during the pulp era of the 1930s.Β  Perhaps because I never followed comics that much outside of the mainstream superheroes in my fandom days, and because the genres themselves were actually quite marginal compared to most popular forms of entertainment, I didn't do any research to find out what inspired the characters and universe of the Hyperborian Age until just recently.

Β Β  Frank Thorne seems to have become quite iconic as an artist associated with Red Sonja.Β  He did go on to more adult-oriented territory afterwards (his Ghita of Alizar series), but after working on the Marvel title, he spent a lot of time in self-promotion, touring the convention circuit with a bevy of mail-clad beauties while dressing up as a wizard.Β  Seems more like a showman than an artist with a long history of working in the comics industry.
