I did that already but it made no difference.
I finally jailbroke my phone 2 days ago - I dunno if there's something extra I have to install to get it to show properly? Everything else I've tried (lockscreens, themes, etc.) all work fine - it's only the lock slider that's not aligned properly.
I tried Googling it but can't find any answers.

i think you are using theme for 3.x firmware .. open rar and find theme for ios4 and upload it on phone .. it fix that problem.
