Description A family tree of Swedish monarchs during the  kingdom's years as part of the Kalmar Union (a continuation of the Swedish Monarchs family tree). The kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, while still sovereign states, were under the rule of one crown (with one interruption when a Swedish nobleman was elected King of Sweden and Norway ). Sweden eventually regained its independence in the Swedish War of Secession , provoked by the Stockholm Bloodbath . The war, also known Gustav Vasa's Rebellion, resulted in Gustav being crowned King of Sweden, beginning a new royal line that would remain unbroken until the 19th Century.
