Description This is the first part of my timed exam in fine art AS Level. i have taken around 3 and half hours for this, i thank "Capt-Jack" for the helpful advice on using tortillians in pencil work, i used it for the first time in this piece at it was really good. The theme for the exam is "opulence", like wealth, glamour, bling, extravagance. So i need to incorpriate that into my exam. i'm going to add it to the background of my portrait.. like thoughts, anyone have a ideas what i can use?

Cool sp man. With the hair, think of it as different masses and not so much of the scratchy lines. It makes it look like you have hay for hair. When you are drawing hair, try to think of different chunks of it as organic shapes and try to simplify it more, then after that you go into more detail by erasing and keeping your darkest darks in there.

This is good work, the use of blending stumps aids the progress of shading....
may I suggest the use of cottin balls and q-tips...For the softer tones...
keep up the talented work my friend

aww it were a bit of a rush a the end, its at college and i never got a final photogrpah of it, but i added space into the background with floating expensive objects into the bckground, things made out of the stars, i'll hopefully upload when i get a picture, watch out for it

This one shows a definate improvement, the tortillion has really helped! I have an idea for you, you should get a load of mini photos of really famous preople and put the in the background, you then have the contrast between you and people with wealth, yet your portrait is bigger, make any sense? Good luck with the exam, art exams are the best part of doing AS levels! xxxx

yea it was a bit of a shock after GCSE to go down to 8 hours but people forget that in art your not writing anything! I dropped art though after AS, too much work and 1 of my teachers was aweful! xxx

Yea, i never got the chance to do much pencil drawing, apparently drawing from a photo isnt "proper" observation. So for my c/w i had to do something else and then when my teacher saw my drawings she was like "oh you should so do a drawing". I nearly murdered her! I did learn to screen print though, the only good part of my course! xxxx

Yeah i know. life drawing is more natural.. i have lots of respect for life drawing portraits. thats well hard. My art teachers want me to carry on with art because they think i can do well. it's just. im not gona do it as a ocupations. just a hobby. so i dunno if its a waste of a A level. Hmm xx
