My personal favorite is the Demos' parrot head, but that's just me.
As for most of the "nonsensical" hats, most were picked by the community, so while a few may not like them, others still do.

don't get me wrong, i like the hats too, if i had that mercenary scarf i would totally wear it, but the TF2 store (real merc, not ingame stuff) was out of them D:
