Description
Somewhere in Northern Eurasia, a solitary bruiser (genus Contusiosaurus) pauses with a chunk of its most recent kill in its mouth. Bruisers are one branch of the "woolly tyrannosaurs" that evolved in a parallel version of Earth during the Ice Age and survive to this day in much of Eurasia and North America. While the enormous sabre-tyrants get more attention from the media, bruisers are much more common and widespread.Well this is the first bit of Spec-related stuff I've posted, mostly because I like this painting and it would be sad if no one else got to see it. It's not a very ambitious picture, but I was happy with how it turned out.
Spec, by the way, is the Speculative Dinosaur Project, of which I was a co-editor for a few years back in high school. If there are no objections, I might post some more Spec stuff.

Not the first time life has imitated art
I hear Dougal Dixon has a whole file of animals he invented that were later discovered to actually exist

Question: How did you guys use the wiki format without being vandalized by random outsiders?

Are you talking about Spec? Dude, we were BEFORE wikis. It was an old-fashioned HTML website, edited and posted by me. Toward the end I shared the password with two or three other people, but that was it.

Please do post more! I love the Spec site! I just wish there was more new content there! I enjoy what you and your friends did there, any plains for a book?

Thanks for the support! I'm glad you like Spec, but it was a project that we did when we were high school students. Everyone has moved on since then.
I DO have some plans for a book (or something), but it won't be for a while (until I have published the books I am currently working on).

That is a very cool., I understand how that is. I personally have loved Dinosaurs since the age of 3. Unfortunately i never became the paleontologist I wanted to be, no money for school.... but that's neither here or there... What other books are you working on?

Well, it's never too late to go back to school. You can probably even volunteer help at your nearest university. I did that in high school, and had a wonderful time gluing together Tenontosaur vertebrae.
What other books you ask? Well, there's the one I finished: [link]
And the one I'm working on: [link]
Hope you enjoy

I've been wondering for a while, is it still possible to join the project and/or contribute art?

I'm not in charge any more, so I don't know. I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to make a deviant art group. I'm sure people would join

I realize you're not involved with spec anymore, but do you have any idea what's with the beasts page on the new spec website?

Well, I'm sort of retired now (although at some point guilt will probably make me at least get all of the old site up and running). Check out [link]

Awww... That's a pity...
I really liked Spec.
It just needs some updating and debugging.
The Ammonite page leads to alot of dead links...

Constant debugging, yes. And I feel no shame when I say that it's not my problem any more. Maybe at some point in the distant future I will write my science fiction story about Spec or get together some Spec gods to make part of the project into a book. Spec actually did make it as far as the Paleo Times, so the interest is there, but the amount of work to make it into a coherent book is vast.

Heh, no objections here!
Spec is plodding along and getting bogged in semantics nowadays, but our new contributors are helping keep us out of the proverbial mire. I've got backlogs of stuff that Dave is having too little time to upload, and Tiina is ill again, meanwhile Brian is busy being a paleontologist and I'm busy looking for work.
Warmest regards,
Tim

yeah. I don't think I'm going to make any new Spec stuff any time soon, but I will post the pictures I like on Deviant Art if there's interest.

Also, there's Spec fan-art out there on DA!
I kid you not, search it and you'll see!
