Description Younger. (They are not meant to be standing side by side, so don't complain about their height.)

Just to show that those faces aren't really that different from those older versions we all have seen, I copied the young faces and made them older, as seen on the bottom of the page. Those are exactly the same faces, only with characteristics we usually see them with.

And now I'm going to rant on about their ages, so if you don't care, stop reading. There's nothing else but that from now on.

Now, I've been thinking about their ages... If we say Jack was in his late thrities at the time of the first movie, and Hector in his fifties/late forties... Yes, I am well aware that the average life expectancy during the time was around 36, even less if you were say, a pirate, but this film series has curses and goddesses and beating hearts in chests, so I think we can tweak history this little bit, don't you?

So, my estimate of their age difference is about 10 years (Johnny and Geoffrey have 12 yrs). BUT. As you know, Barbossa was cursed for about 10 years, which means he probably didn't physically age since he couldn't even die. Therefore, Jack had time to actually catch up, which means their actual age difference would be 20 years... which wrecks my brain.

What this all means is that when Jack was in his early twenties, Hector was in his forties. Now, if Jack got the Pearl when he was nearing 30, Hector would have been fifty, which is, pardon me for saying, a very high age for a pirate leading a hard life. I just said screw history, but 50 years in such lifestyle is a burden, history forgot or not. So, let us say Jack and Hector's age difference is approximately 15 years.

So if Jack is 20 in this picture, Hector is 35. Plausible. He should be dying, should we listen to history (which we won't). Jack could be younger in this, too, who am I to say. I haven't decided. Let's say he's 17-22 years of age in this.

lol, interesting rant. i've often wondered why jack would hire someone as first mate who was so obviously older and not...uh...submissive to a young brash captain. it makes one...want to write fanfic!
i especially like your depiction of a younger hector, i think it's right on target

I ran into the same problem. The conclusion I came to is a 20 year age difference and said "F*ck it! Barbossa's too tough for death to take him without one hell of a fight!!"

Lol. Of course the ten year span of immortality and the resurrection didn't hurt either.
