Description
On a day early in Spring, Bold son of Farthing Wood Fox died injured and exhausted, saving Whisper and the cubs she was carrying. He never came to see White Deer Park again, nor his own cubs. The way had been to long, his wound had been to great. Whisper had to go on alone...This picture shows what might hav been: If Bold had survived, if he had been cured again...
As the last one, this picture was done in watercolour in spring 2001. I had improved a bit, and though the colouring of Bold is still too rough, Whisper is much better.
Sadly I was only able to take this very bad photo...

Eh, I gotta say the whole "Happy" cliche ending gets on my nerves. When reading ze fox cub Bold, I fully expected him to get picked up by the Gamekeeper and cared for by a vet, healed for ever and ever blah blah blah, realising that live in the reserve wasn't so bad, settling down happily ever after... well, until the poisoning, the new White Deer, that weird feline and the rat attack... but still happy
Finding I was completely wrong actually made me like the book more. It sounds so sick 'yeah, I'm glad Bold died' but, he is just a figment of imagination so it hardly counts as cruelty O-o

The book would have been much less interesting and good, if Bold had survived. I fully share your opinion. But exactly that tragic ending justifies dreaming of a better one.

Hm... my opinion...
Well, I think the standing foxes eyes are too slanted, its tail a tad too short, its knee looks too low down, though that may just be because its bottom is supposed to be further forward than its front...
I'm left wondering about that patch of fur under the sitting foxes nose, which seems to make it look like it has a huge rear (wide load, lol), and I also wonder how a fox could put its paw across its chest like that, when its elbows and shoulders aren't nearly as flexible as a humans... or felines for that matter.
What's more, I'm sure their pupils should be slit, and the reflection points in the eye confuse me as to where the light is coming from.
And positive? >-><-< Why, the shading is absolutely beautiful, with a steady contrast that gives the foxes a more realistic 'shine', I'd even go so far as to say that the standing one looks 3-D, though not the lying one O-o
And it has a background that doesn't pull away from the main theme of the picture, but rather highlights the peace and isolation.
Even without putting in the different layers of fur and such, it still looks like a pair of foxes there and gives them a sleeker look :3

Ein wunderschönes, zärtliches Bild. Das strahlt so viel stille unaufdringliche Harmonie aus - und das ist das, was ich mir für den Kühnen immer gewünscht und vorgestellt habe. Beim Lesen des Buches hatte ich immer noch die Hoffnung, das alles gut wird, und dass die beiden gemeinsam den Frühling erleben - und jedesmal, wenn ich das Buch erneut zur Hand nehme, ist da diese Hoffnung, auch wenn ich es besser weiß.
Aber nun ja, auch für Füchse gibbt es sicherlich ein Wiedersehen

The colours are far from perfect, I just tried a bit. But I'm very happy with Whisper, though Bold (I coloured him first) is a bit too rough.
