Reader’s Pov
The cell they had put you in had four walls with no windows and only a door to let light in. You had curled up in a corner and were trying not to cry. You knew what was going to happen next you had seen it many times before. The last thing you had ever wanted was for the people you loved to have to see you die but there was no way you could keep them away. Merlin had called out to you in the square but you had ignored him. It was for his own good and protection. You were fine with giving yourself up but you wouldn’t let anyone hurt your dear friend.
You heard a knock on your cell door and then it opened to reveal Morgana tears staining her face. “What are you doing here?” You ask as you slowly stand up. She rushes over and wrapping her arms around your neck says, “I know you’re not a witch, I wish you could have stayed hidden.” You wrap your arms around her as you say, “Thank you for believing in me. It’s nice to have a friend like you.” She quickly pulls away and says, “Just wait Arthur won’t let Uther kill you.” You shake your head as you say, “I don’t want him to be there when it happens, and it will because it is inevitable. Please promise me you will keep him away and not let him do something stupid.” Morgana shakes her head at first but then after looking into your pleading eyes she nods and says, “I will try my best. But why are you giving up?”
You sigh as you say, “I’m tired, and tomorrows outcome is inevitable. In a way I have accepted it. At least I’ll be with my family again.” Morgana wiped her tears as she says, “I will miss you,” “And I shall miss you. Goodbye my friend.” Morgana nodded and then with one last hug she left leaving you alone with your thoughts. You silently prayed that somehow she would succeed in keeping Arthur away. You were doing this to protect your friends and who knows maybe dying wouldn’t be that hard.
The next morning came faster than you thought it would as the sound of the key in the lock woke you from your sleep. You looked toward the door to see Arthur standing in the doorway. “To what do I owe the honor your highness?” You say as you slowly stand up to face him. “I’ve come to save you.” He says hope filling his eyes. You force a smile as you say, “If you were to save me your father would know it was you. Thank you but I will stay here.” His eyes darken as he says, “Why won’t you let me save you? I could handle my father.” You shake your head as you say, “I can’t let you do that.” He stomps toward you and reaching forward grabs your hand and starts to lead you toward the door.
Jerking your hand from his grasp you say, “Arthur please, just let me go.” His blue eyes search yours as he says, “I can’t let you die.” “You’re not letting me die I’m choosing it.” He narrows his eyes a look of hurt and betrayal filling his face as he says, “Why would you ever choose to die?” You gently reach up and placing your hand on his cheek as you say, “I want you to live a long and happy life and the only way I can do that is to just let what’s about to happen, happen.” “I don’t want you too.” Tears sting your eyes as you try to hold them back. “Arthur, if things were different I would gladly run away with you; but alas they are not.”
“Please ______, don’t do this.” Arthur says as he reaches up and gently runs his finger along your jaw line making your heart flurry. You stare into his blue eyes trying to come up with something, anything; to get him to leave but your heart wouldn’t let you. Then without as much as another word his lips crash against yours making you let out a soft moan; his kiss conveying all his emotions to you. Tears fill your eyes as you finally give up and wrap your arms tightly around his neck pulling him in closer and deepening the kiss. His hands gently move up and down your back as your hands entangle is his hair. Letting your emotions go you felt Arthur greedily pull at your dress almost ripping it from your body. If this was your last night on Earth then you wanted to spend it with the one you loved.
The two of you lay there on the floor of your cell, Arthur gently running his fingers through your hair. You felt completely content in his strong arms. You look around to see a slight sliver of sunlight peek into your cell and you sigh as you say, “It’s time,” His body suddenly tenses as he remembers what you were to go through today. “Please don’t do this.” He says as his grip tightens on you. Taking a deep breath you pull away from him and standing up quickly put your dress back on. “What can I do or even say that will make you change your mind?” He asks as he stands up and reaches out to you. “I have to do this Arthur, but who knows maybe your father will let me go.” You say trying to make him feel better but deep down you know that he wouldn’t.
Apparently your lie worked because a smile covers his lips as he jumps up and quickly puts his clothes back on. “Don’t worry ______ I’ll talk to him again.” You force a smile as you say, “Of course.” He quickly gives you a kiss before sneaking out of your cell. You watch as he goes and you bite your lip to keep from crying. A few minutes later a guard opens your door and you take a deep breath as he says, “It’s time to go.” You nod and running your fingers through your hair smoothing it say, “Let’s do this.”
You look up into Uther’s bluish green eyes and gulp down a breath of air. “______, do you know why you were brought before me today?” You nod as you say, “I have your majesty.” “And what do you have to say for yourself?” Taking a deep breath you say, “The accusations against me are not entirely false.” The room lets out gasps of shock as you stand up straight. “Continue,” Uther says as he rubs his fingers against his chin. “I am the daughter of the fairy King Barden.” You hear people start to gossip around you and you sigh as you say, “I am the last living being of the garden fairies. My people were massacred by those who didn’t understand us when I was just a child. My mother was human, a lady of Avalon; she sent me to a nearby town so I would avoid being targeted by whomever targeted us. When I got older they sent me here to work as a ladies-maid. The rest you are aware of my lord. So to answer your question no, I am not a witch. I am magic itself.”
Uther stares at you for a moment before he says, “Are you aware that the very mention of what you have said is enough to pass judgment on yourself?” You nod and looking over see Arthur sitting there a look of worry filling his eyes you let out a sigh and say, “I do my lord, but it is not in my nature to tell a lie.” He nods as he says, “Given your history here and how close you are to my children I will not order your death.” Relief fills your body and you see Arthurs body relax. “But my lord she is an abomination, her very existence is an affront to God.” You hear a man of the cloth say and your throat tightens. You hold back tears as you once again stand strong. “Last time I checked I was the king here and her sentence was my right to give her.” Uther says standing and slowly walking toward you.
You take a deep breath as you stare at the king worried about what his judgment would be. “I have decided on a sentencing; ______, you are hereby banished from Camelot and are never to return. You are to be taken back to where you were brought here from and you will remain there for the rest of your days.” You smile as you say, “Thank you your majesty. I will leave as soon as you want me too.” He looks around at his court and says, “I wish to speak to ______ alone, you are all dismissed.” You look toward the man of the cloth who stares daggers at you suddenly making you feel uncomfortable.
You watch as Arthur stares at you worry filling his eyes. You give him a slight nod, assuring him you would be okay. When you and Uther are alone he turns to you and says, “I knew from the very moment I saw you who you were.” “You knew?” He nods as he says, “Your father was a dear friend of mine. When he got wind of his demise he sent word that one day you would arrive and I must say you are the spitting image of your mother; however you have your father’s personality.” Tears fill your eyes as you say, “I would have given anything to have met him. My mother kept me in Avalon when I was a child to protect me so I never met him.”
He gives you a half smile as he says, “I have spared your life as a repayment for all the years of friendship he and I shared please spend it wisely.” “Thank you your majesty. I will cherish every moment.” “I pray that you give my children a proper farewell this time.” You smile as you say, “Yes your majesty.” He gently hugs you before he turns and leaves you alone in the big throne room. Letting out a sigh you tilt your head back and smile. “Thank you, father.” You say as you thank the father you had never met. “You are an abomination.” You hear a man say and turning come face to face with the man in the cloth stand a few feet away from you a dagger in his hand.
Fear fills your eyes as you say, “I have done nothing to you.” “Just your kind being alive is enough to make my blood boil. I have spent years looking for the last child of the Faye, and here you stand.” Your eyes widen as you say, “It was you! You killed my family!” Anger rises in your chest as you slowly start to feel an unknown force fill your body. “I did and I will do it again if it is what will rid our beautiful world of your wretched kind.” “Did it ever occur to you that the reason this world is so beautiful is because the fairy’s make it so? They spend every day making the world beautiful because it makes them happy.” “That is blasphemy, God himself created all nature it says so in the bible.” “The bible, if you want to be technical; says that god created all. Given that information that means god created the fairies so who are you to say they are an abomination and an affront to God?”
His eyes narrow at you as he slowly moves over to you making you slowly back away your eyes glued to the dagger in his hand. “I am a messenger of God, and I will cleanse his kingdom of all that is unholy.” As he rushes you, you turn and trying to run from him feel him grab your hair and jerk you back into him, his dagger piercing your back right as the door opens to reveal Arthur walking in. His eyes widen as he sees you fall to the floor covered in blood. “Guards!” He yells out making the throne room fills with armored men who instantly surround your assailant and drag him from the room kicking and screaming while Arthur wraps his arms around you panic filling his eyes.
“______, stay with me.” He cries out as he tries to stop the bleeding. “Arthur, it’s okay.” You say trying to calm him down. You feel yourself start to lose consciousness and within a blink of an eye you are sitting in Gaius’s chamber with people rushing around you. You look up to see Merlin standing over you his hand wrapped tightly around yours. You smile as you say, “Hello brother.” He clenches his teeth as he says, “The only way to help you is to use magic but if I do-” “Then don’t,” “But you’ll die.” “Listen to me, just take me home. Lay me in the flower fields of my birthplace and let the fairy magic do its work.” Merlin glances back and forth between two people who were just out of your vision. Before you are able to hear his reply you black out again.
Upon opening your eyes you look around to see the flickering light of the midnight fairies and smile. “Hello you,” you say as you reach up toward the fairies and smiling brighter as one of them fly down to hold your hand. “Rest my child,” You hear a male voice say and you smile softly as you close your eyes drifting off into a beautiful dream.
~Years Later~
“Mum where are you?” You hear your son call out as he runs into the house almost knocking Hunith down. “I’m here what is so important?” He grabs your hand his blue eyes shining brightly as he drags you from the house. “You have to come with me!” “Okay, Okay I’m coming.” You say as you follow closely behind him toward the river. “So what is so important you had to drag me down here to see?” You say as you run your hands through his shimmering blonde hair. He was the spitting image of his father.
“I have a surprise for you.” He says as he points ahead of you. You follow his finger to see Arthur standing by the waters edge a bright smile covering his face. You smile brightly as you run over and jumping into his arms say. “I missed you so much.” “I missed you too.” He kisses your lips earning you both a groan from your son. You laugh into your loves lips as you say, “He gets that from you.” “I wish you both would come back with me to Camelot.” “Arthur, It’s been two years since your father passed away, the last thing your kingdom needs is for your illegitimate son and his half fairy mother to reveal themselves to everyone.”
“_______, I wish I could stay out here with you for the rest of my life.” “We do too but these little visits are enough for us. I don’t want to constantly have to worry about whether or not some assassin is going to come kill me or our child; and here I don’t have too. The only people who know that Van is your son are Hunith, Merlin, and Gwen. I trust them and who knows maybe one day when Van is a grown man we can return to Camelot and be a happy family; but until then you are welcome here whenever you like.” He smiles as he says, “I await the day we can all live together again.” Grinning you look over at you son playing in the river and say, “Me too Arthur, me too.”
