Hey, I'm working on this one right now. It's pretty big, isn't it? I've got the upper left finished, and I'm working on the bottom left now. Just finished outlining the South American guy. Isn't it a fun one to work on? I'm doing it for my uncle, but I'm afraid he's going to have to wait awhile. I have periods where I'm all jazzed up about working on cross stitch (the needle flies!) and then periods where I'm not in the mood. So it takes me a few years to do them...

I'm exactly the same as you; I spent three years on this one. Sometimes months would go by and I wouldn't touch it, and then for a few weeks I'd work on it for hours a day.
What's funny is, I completed this one in 2009, but when I look at certain parts, I still think of what TV shows I was watching when I was at that part. (I would go to the library and get seasons and seasons worth of shows and watch 50 episodes in a row while crafting.) The lion in the grass was the X-Files, the ship was Connections, South America was Star Trek: The Next Generation, and so on.

Ha, ha! I do that too! Now I'm trying to remember what movies/shows I was watching on parts of it too. The most recent one was "The Matrix" on South America. Oh yeah, and "Riding in Cars with Boys" on North America. I watched ER and Grey's Anatomy on and off too.
