This scene is always annoying me. Kili here, Kili there and even if Fili is in danger, he is called Kili!RA said, that he couldn't tell them appart. But please, they look so different. They are no twins or something like that.
I wonder why nobody realised that Thorin said the wrong name. It's even wrong in the German synchronization.
But still I love the movie and just had to draw the scene. I like Orcrist! xD

The stone giants that were having the 'thunder battle'? yeah, you're right, they did see them from far away and the a rock hit the ledge they were on, Think it started to crumble separating Kili & Fili, but can't remember who was on what side.
Don't know what I was thinking before... oh wait, I thought the rocks were when the trolls were turned to stone for some reason....silly me

I watched the scene again and again ! And I was sure that Kili was in the same side to Thorin !
But I watched again and again and saw that Kili was next to Bombur, and it was the leg that crashed...
I said : " Wut ? Oo " I think it's a wrong manipulation =/
But I was watching the scene to understand x)
I imagined then the scene like that :Β
Thorin: NO KILI !!!
Kili: Hum, uncle ? I'm here !
Thorin (looking behind him) : Oh for the Durin's sake !, You're safe ! ... Oh wait...( he noticed that Kili is alone) SHIT ! FILI !!!

I had to watch that scene at least 5 times frame by frame to find out who was next to who and in what order they were in. Well at least Thorin know's one of their names seeing as they are his nephews :3

It's Fili (together with Bilbo, Ori, Bofur, Bombur and Dwalin), but Thorin is crying for Kili. That's why this scene is a bit more confusing then necessary. xD

I noticed that too, and was kinda annoyed since it's a movie you would think they'd be able to get it right, but I remember how my mom and my grandparents would always mix up me and my sisters names, they would even call us by the cats names sometimes! So I imagine that Thorin would mix up Fili and Kili's names quite often.

When I saw the movie for the first time and without any additional information, I also had difficulties to know who is Fili and who Kili. Especially because I knew the book and there Fili is actually the younger one.
But someone who spent over 18 months in this role should really know the names! xD

Thorin/Richard kind of suffers the same problem as my uncle did when I was younger - he couldn't tell me and my cousin apart and ended up calling us Bob and Ben, despite we were GIRLS. Imagine Thorin going apeshit and "FROM NOW ON I CALL YOU BOB AND BEN!" "Who's Bob then?" "I DON'T CARE!" crappy uncle is crappy uncle

Yes, I agree. We as audience see that it's Fili, but if you are in such an confusing situation it's hard to tell who is where. Which leads to another question: Why does Thorin know that one of his nephews is in danger? And why isn't he worried about his best friend Dwalin?

Maybe because he trusts Dwalin to take care of himself, and acts more like a worried father over FΓli and KΓli (and in movieverse at least, he practically is their father - there's quotes from both Richard Armitage and Dean O'Gorman indicating that their father is dead and Thorin is their surrogate father).
