Is anyone going to tell me where the term "plot" comes from? I've been hearing it for years but I don't know how it came to have that meaning. (and don't get me wrong, I don't obsess over that area of the ponies or anything like that)

I believe "Plot" generally refers to the butt of a horse, sometimes used along with "flank" and to a lesser extent "hindquarters." Β Kind of curious about that myself since most anatomy drawings I've looked at seem to refer to it as the "buttocks" or the "dock" tail region...haven't seen much that refers to it as the plot, maybe I'm not looking hard enough
In any case, expressions like "The Plot Thickens" and "I Watch This For the Plot" began as a kind of wordplay/injoke thingy referring to pony butt, and things kind of caught on from there, is my understanding.

I already knew what it meant, I was just asking where it came from. I eventually found out - there's a picture showing scenes from the show focusing on that area of the ponies that says "I watch it for the plot", which is how that got to be another name for it, and it's exclusive to the female G4 ponies. (and of course now "plothole" can be used as an insult)
The words they've used most often in the show are "rump" and "backside". I still don't get why people use "flank" as another word for that when it really refers to their hip (like, you can't see their cutie marks when the camera is positioned directly behind them). According to two episodes, Pinkie Pie can't even tell the difference, indicating her flank when she said "rump" in Party Pooped, and in What About Discord, she looks for glowing cutie marks and says "No glowing tushies here".

A similar joke was done in an Animaniacs episode, Hercule Yakko (which introduced the world to one of the hottest furry babes Minerva Mink). For those who don't know wheat I'm talking about: A missing diamond belonging to Marita Hippo turned out to be wedged into her buttocks.*

I forgot all about that episode! Β XD Β It was originally referencing a Far Side comic by Gary Larson where an old lady posts a Lost Cat poster for a cat that is stuck in her rear. Β But it could have inspired that very episode, which could have inspired this? Β And so the circle continues...
