Description Ashley Williams and John Shepard holding a drinking contest in some out of the way club of the Citadel during their days of R&R.

I can't help but think that Ashley and Shepard's relationship is bestowed with a good natured competition between the two of them, especially seeing that they are both Alliance marines, used to give their best under all circumstances and used to be the winner in all situations. As a result, it took just some boasting to spark the need for this drinking contest.

Ashley: I can drink twice more of this stuff and still drill a target with my Lancer better than you Skipper!
Shepard: Yeah, we are going to see about that. Next stop, the Spectre's shooting range...

This scene is set some time after the Reaper War and is part of a series showing Ashley and John spending some of their R&R time together (see part 1 here).

You are right, they do have a drinking contest in the Citadel DLC! I just thought that, because how things turned out at the time of that first contest, Ash and Shepard might like the idea of having another contest where they can finally see who is the real Spectre! Thank you very much! Have to admit the number of models used for the objects is pretty high here, the highest of any of my pictures I believe. For the characters I had a lot of help from using these handy Citadel DLC Crowds for XPS , so as to avoid having to separately pose all characters in the background!

Glad you like the scene: I'm still considering if/how to improve lights, but I'm quite happy with the current looks. Indeed, it took some time to put this together, but most of the work was posing Ashley and Shepard. Once the two of them were posed, setting up the scenery elements and adding details was just so fun that I lost track of time while doing that!

Thanks Joe! For those effects I used thorsglow with different colors for lights and glows around objects: amazing how much that glow thing is handy (and versatile)!

Lol, actually I forgot about Shepard's ME2 performance when drinking the Serrice Ice brandy... Taking that into account, I have to reconsider: it's likely both Ash and Shepard will end up sleeping on the floor of the shooting range before they can see who's the better shot!

Thanks! I'm still considering whether I can somehow improve lighting in order to increase the shine on Ash and Shepard, but overall I'm quite happy with this.

And my guess is that betting on Shepard is a safe move here! That scene in ME3 in you mention is part of my inspiration for this scene, so I'm afraid that by the time they reach the range Ash will hardly manage to even hold her rifle...

You're welcome. Did you already tested the latest version of XPS (11.x) There's a material editor included and you can adjust the amount of shine of every part of the model.
To be satisfied with your work is the most important part in my eyes.

I just hope that there will be no misfortune when they got drunk at the shooting range. Maybe it would be best both won't reach any weapons.

Have to admit I didn't test XPS 11.x so far. I've been sticking to latest 10.9.x version so far, mostly because I'm comfortable with that one. But that material editor feature sounds quite interesting, so I'll definitely install 11.x to give it a try. Thanks for letting me know!

And I agree on being satisfied with one's work. For this one I think there might be some room for improvement, but I was happy enough with it to upload. There's already a relatively high number of pictures that never makes it to my gallery on dA because I'm not happy with those (or the XPS scene itself): in essence what shows up in my gallery is generally what I'm happy with!

Don't worry about Ash and Shepard: the way I see it now is that they will either get lost on the way to the shooting range because they are too drunk or maybe they'll simply decide to do something else entirely once they are out of that club!

I use XPS only for saving my models. What I saw was similar to previous previous
with some additional features. You should test it.

I see that as a good attitude. I really wish more would see it this way.
We all should publish only our best and not everything we produced.

Lets see. Maybe there is an open apartment on the way.

Well, I'm a bit of a perfectionist (sometimes way too much), so it's quite easy for me exercise a good amount of self-criticism to decide what might be suitable for being published and what should not go ahead being finished/shared. Lol, sometimes I'm surprised that I've managed to publish some pictures in spite of mine own self-criticism!

Oh, actually Shep and Ashley do have their apartment! They'll visit the place and spend some time there in one of the next pictures of the series!

What I see it's an enhanced version. The material editor was a good idea.
It helps even with porting, since I don't need to reexport or editing ascii files.

Perfectionism isn't the worst attitude. To find the right balance is the trick.
It's a bit weird when some people publish the same scenery multiple times just from different angels.

Even if I was never a great fan of Ash I'm looking forward to see what you've in mind.

I still hadn't the time to test out the new version, but all those new functions you mentioned sound useful. I don't mind editing the mesh.ascii files, but doing the reexport is annoying so workarounds are definitely welcome.

Yes, most of the times it feels weird to me when I come across multiple pictures that are showing the same scene from different angles. But I've also seen a few artists releasing no more than 2-3 pictures of the same scene and actually making all pictures look interesting because they introduced subtle details or effects to make each image unique. But personally I really prefer the "one scene, one picture" approach.

And thanks for following my Ash+Shep works then, very appreciated (especially considering Ash is not among your favorites)! At present I've been working on and off on preparing some resources (models) for Dragon Age works, but I've got three wip scenes with Ash (and Shepard of course!) that I hope to release over the next weeks: a pool scene, a bedroom scene and a casino scene. Also, I haven't forgotten about that hug between Liara and FemShep!

You've time. Practice makes perfect. Someday you'll find it.

If there are difference in the images than it can be okay.
But if it's the same setting and only a different angel it shows me that the artitst can't decide.

Lol, after spending the last couple of weeks directly editing the mesh.ascii for my latest models submission, I'm beginning to hate direct editing myself!

I have a few days of vacation ahead, so I hope to release at least one new picture this week!
