Description
To add some fluff derived from playtests:ROU-X Torturer Class Cruiser “Attitude Adjuster 290 POINTS
The Torturer Class Rapid Offence Unit (ROU) is the first class of Idirian ships based completely on new technologies. The look reflects a new design philosophy relatively free of the limitations less advanced ships in the galaxy have.
The ships of this class are highly automated compact and energy efficient, allowing high manoeuvrability, extreme speed and an amount of close packed heavy weaponry unknown up to now. The complete bridge can be decoupled in the case of emergency as an escape and rescue ship. The torturer class incorporates the best sensors the Idirian knowledge can provide. Due to the complexity, Torturers are hard to assemble and therefore only 3 have been built so far.
The main weapon is the EMP-gun, its visible effect an eerie blue stream of energy looking like a bundle of thunderbolts, travelling in a glowing tunnel over a very long distance. This weapon affects the target by overloading the controls and internal energy transmission systems converting the ship into a drifting hulk for quite some time until the charges dissipate. This period is commonly used to complete the torturers mission without interference (and with a bit of luck without lasting harm to the target) or in hard fights to cripple or damage the target with the other weapons. This weapon is especially threatening since it cannot be neutralised by shields. The only means against some of the effects is to close all sections so that they form something resembling Faraday Cages (e.g.: Brace for Impact) and so dissipating the overload through the hull.
Reports say that even the Eldar respect these ships because the EMP gun takes no notice of the holofields and the Necrons seem to fear them because of the possibility of lasting damage to their adaptive armour and electronic senses. What this weapon causes to Tyranids can only be guessed, but the initial findings lead to the assumption that they will not like it at all (you can imagine the effect of an electric cattle fence when peeing against it, can you?).
This disturbingly alien looking ship has first been sighted only recently at the outer fringes of the gothic sector by a mixed imperial squadron of 4 cobra destroyers and 2 Armatus light cruisers on a reconnaissance mission. It passed by at an incredible speed without reaction to communications attempts.
A couple of days later the squadron ran into a massed ambush of nine Necron Raiders and was in danger of being destroyed when the ship arrived seemingly out of nowhere inflicting such an amount of havoc to the Necrons that the last 3 of the ambushers fled from the scene leaving 6 destroyed raiders behind.
The weapon used sent out their blue white beams seemingly overloading the enemies internal systems with energy and leaving them in a status of “electronic death”. This made them helpless against the devastating attacks with lances and weapons batteries.
The squadron received a single short burst message: “If you attack us we'll Adjust Your Attitude!”
The data gathered during this encounter lead to the preliminary listing of capabilities.

Special Rules EMP-GUN:
- Shoots like WB and hits like a lance (4+)
- Is not affected by shields (even holofields give no save)
- Hits needed to effect: 3 for battleships, 2 for Cruisers, 1 for escorts
- Effects the targets systems by overloading them with energy pulses, which disrupt comms and controls and bring horrific pain to the crew. Only heavily isolated installations like energy and shield reactors are not affected. Redundant systems like computers, control lines and comms come up again after reboot. This takes the rest of the turn and the following reducing the ship to a drifting but still shielded hull. Necron armour cannot learn anymore and their senses are disturbed for the actual and the next turn. (WB hits on 4+, Lance hits on 3+)
- The effect can be reduced by using special command “Brace for Impact” creating isolated cells in the hull letting the overload dissipate through the inner beams, walls and the hull. This measure lets some of the controls for weapons and drive intact, but they are reduced to 1/3 of their initial capacity. Crippled ships are reduced to ¼.
- Ordnance in the path (+-3cm) is severely disoriented. Fighters and bombers must be removed. For torpedoes roll a scatter dice and move into the new direction (re-roll the “stay as is” roll).
