Description
Here is something for the megalomaniacs in the BFG-Community. It is a scratch-built “Thing” done by my elder son. Read the "Fluff" at the end of this description if you like.
Wherever the “Extinctor” shows up it causes either exhilaration or deep fear, depending on which side one stands in the battle.
The basics of this design reach back to a time deep in the dark age of technology. The empty hull has been found drifting in orbit around the moon of one of the outer gas giants in a lost industrial system abandoned millennia ago.
Although the original design parameters could not be reconstructed fully and data about most of the weapon systems (some exotic) were only sketchy the Adeptus Mechanicus an his Tech Priests were able to build a terrifying ship with the best technology and newest enhancements the Imperium could supply. The “Extinctor” represents the “top of the art” in shipbuilding introducing the incredible Gamma Cluster Cannon to the galactic war.
This Weapon fires a stream of clustered hard gamma laser pulses with an incredible power. Even the side effects in a tunnel along the path of this “clustered pulses” annihilate all ordnance and debris (i.e. Fighters, Bombers, Torpedoes, Blast-clouds) and penetrate Dust Clouds with no visible reduction in strength to the main weapons energy.
Reports from the first encounter of the “Extinctor” with a Chaos battleship squadron say the superdreadnought obliterated one of the traitor battleships in a matter of seconds.
We are sure to hear much from this ship in the next time.
Titan Class Superdreadnought “Extinctor” 1025 POINTS
TYPE/HITS SPEED TURNS SHIELDS ARMOUR TURRETS
Defence/24 15cm Special 8 6+Front/5+ 6
ARMAMENT RANGE/SPEED FIREPOWER/STR FIRE ARC
Port Weapons Batteries 60cm 36 Left
Starboard Weapons Batteries 60cm 36 Right
Port Lances 60cm 8 Left

Prow Lances 60cm 6 Front
Dorsal Torpedo Launchers 30cm 12 Front/Left/Right
Central Gamma Cluster Cannon 90cm 30 Front
Special Rules:
· Due to its enormous mass it is seen as a defence but moves like a battleship with the following exceptions: can only turn every second movement phase after having travelled the complete distance of 15cm in both movement phases except under special order “Burn Retros” or in gravity wells
· Blast markers have no effect on speed due to the ships mass
· Special order “Come to New Heading” is not applicable
· Special order “All Full Ahead”: roll 2D6cm
· Gamma Cluster Cannon: shoots as weapons battery, hits as lance, blocked by shields as normal. Ordnance and blast markers are hit in a zone of + 5cm along the straight shooting path (due to secondary radiation) and have to be removed from the table. Critical hits at 4+.
Can be used in “Exterminatus”.
There is only one Titan Class Superdreadnought. It may be used in a fleet with 2000+ points of ships.
The “Fluff”:
The ship’s hull had been found by a prospector in 165.M41, drifting in orbit around a moon of a gas giant in a lifeless industrial system abandoned millennia ago. The prospector, Tiberius Schaffer, was heavily impressed by the hulls sheer size so that he said “ Emperors teeth, if that thing goes back into service it would probably be a new dawn of the Imperium” After the Prospector made it home with the glorious message, Adeptus Mechanicus took hold of the entire system, searching the main planet for forgotten technology, plans or even STC’s and started to refit the new found leviathan immediately Though most systems were offline, but undamaged after 10,000 years of lifeless drifting it took another 100 years to bring the ship in proper condition. Even the main prow armament, a fearsome arrangement of some super heavy gamma pulse lasers could be recovered fully and was brought nearly to the estimated original effectiveness. This could only be managed due to the creation of the testbed vessel “Eclipse II” equipped with a smaller copy of this incredible gun (adding another couple of years to the “revival span”.
Some more heavy efforts had to be spent on the ship’s main drives (the original drive was not completed) so that it’s speed now is comparable with an Emperor Class battleship. The manoeuvring systems could not be restored fully so that the Titan Class has an enormous turning radius when operating at combat speed. Even taking into account the ships high automation grade and reliable systems, over 150,000 crewmen had to be drafted into service to man all the ship’s stations. Still having enough spare room left the decision had been made to fit in huge drop pod arrays for a complete Division of the Imperial Army. This prepared the ship for the purpose of planetary assaults.
In early 270.M41the superdreadnought had been named “Extinctor” in a great ceremony and left the construction site immediately afterwards for a three-month test run where all the ships systems were finetuned for optimal function, testing everything under combat conditions. After three years of training and checking, the ship was detached to the 221. RKG, Segmentum Solar, where it arrived in the middle of 274.M41 and became the new flagship of Admiral DeVille.
Only a few months after the ship started regular service, the “Extinctor” saw it’s first battle.
The order was to stop a detected Chaos traitor fleet which had no visible objective. Over half of the 221. RKG was sent out to hunt down this threat. But it were the traitors to ambush the Imperial fleet in a nameless system during a refuelling from a gas planet’s atmosphere orbiting low. The massive forces, including no less than three Battleships, struck with surprise and obliterated the complete 45. “Buzzin’ Hornets” destroyer squadron out on patrol within no time. Then they prowled deeper in system, destroying three Lunar Cruisers in waiting position around the gas giants moon. Fortunately the Imperial Forces were able to send a warning to the rest of the fleet, which immediately broke orbit and turned towards their enemy, engines all full ahead. Two hours later they arrived at the last reported position of the three Cruisers, just finding them as drifting and blazing hulks, all crews killed by enemy fire.
Then the chaos fleet was spotted by auspices as they tried to sneak around the gas giant. Admiral DeVille ordered half the fleet to engage the enemy for the purpose of gaining some time to manoeuvre his superdreadnought into a perfect firing position. As the traitors turned to give battle, the “Extinctor” came over the horizon of the planet from the opposite side, it’s engines pushing the monstrous mass towards the foe. The captains of the chaos fleet were pretty busy with the rest of the fleet, so they noticed the new threat just as the first Desolator Class Battleship was blasted to shreds by the prow-mounted gamma laser cluster cannon. Finding themselves with battle cruisers to their rear and an amok-running Superdreadnought racing towards the rotten heart of their fleet, the Warlord and his Champions decided to disengage and run for their lives. In the close quarters combat which followed as the traitors tried to turn, they lost two Repulsive Class Grand cruisers to the incredible weapons batteries mounted to the broadsides of the Superdreadnought just able to score minor damage to the raging Titan. With nearly half of their fleet destroyed they finally managed to escape with a sharp calculated warp jump after a wild hunt across the system.
