I use unfold 3d ALOT as a starting point for my UVs.
then I do the rest by hand in 3ds max. We created an in-house uv pluggin for max that helps alot also

ah, ok thanks for the info, I've been using z-brush UV-master, but sometimes it doesn't give me the results I want
