Description

Playing around with artstyles in the early days of working on this project gave us these adorable pseudo-demons, and they've since become a big part of the lore!

As far as humans can tell, these cute little guys have been turning up seemingly at random ever since the Queen and her followers arrived a little over twenty years ago.

Imps pop into existence fully-grown, gradually shrinking over the course of their short lives. They typically start off a little less than half as big as a human and will get smaller and smaller before winking out of existence just as suddenly and without explanation as they arrived. Some imps last only months or even weeks before they disappear while the very rare imp that reaches their tenth birthday might get to be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

No two imps look alike, they don't just come in many sizes but also colours and shapes. They can be found sporting all manner of wings, horns and markings on their bodies. Typically an imp will start off with androgynous physiology but this might change over time to match how they identify. A short lifespan doesn't always allow much time for gender, but imps may either find themselves drawn to the examples they see in society or just come into this world with pretty strong feelings about who they are.

They're born knowing the basics of the world around them and how to communicate with others... but they don't know how or why they know- In fact, there really is quite a lot that remains unknown to everyone about imps, even the demons.

Despite this, demons have figured out how to extend the lives of imps indefinitely. Imps which experience an all-too-human fear of death and nonexistence might seek out a demon and serve them, but more on that later.
