Description
I began a personal art project a couple months ago documenting my weightloss. I keep a journal in which I document my food intake and take self-portraits every week that I add to each journal page. Since beginning February I've now lost 20lbs.I was an absolute stick through highschool and most of college weighing in at a mere average of 110lbs..(and I stand 5'9".)
At some point over the last few years my terrible eating habits and sendentary lifestyle really caught up with me and before I realized it I weighed 150lbs at my highest-ever weight.
I was asked by a friend to photographically document her pregnancy from beginning to end and it was that project that inspired me. I thought it'd be interesting to photograph her as she's getting bigger and me while I'm getting smaller.
And the results are what you see here.

I've done a monthly photo project like this since the beginning of 2007. For the first two years my body never really changed much, and then last year I stopped taking the photos regularly. I gained twenty pounds. So clearly the pictures were keeping me thin.
Or something.

I'm starting the same thing.
I think that if I tie my goals to something tangible, like a photograph, I will be more likely to go for them.
Thank you for inspiring me!

Thanks you so much for sharing this, it's so hard to lose weight when you're at college and everything so I think that you've helped a lot of people by showing this it's possible and sharing a good way to stay motivated.
Anyway, thank you

Yet another deviant inspiring me to chuck out the candy bars and grab some apples. How on Earth did you drop 20 pounds in three months at that low a weight? Share your secrets.

wow! great concept
I'd like to try that for myself if that's alright? I won't submit it here, but just for personal reasons to see my weight loss progress. I'm at 145 I should be 115

What a great idea. The composition is excellent, and in my humble opinion, I think both stages of your body are beautiful. My wife and I are beginning a workout regiment, this hits very close to home.

Strangely, I could not at all tell the difference until I stared at it for quite a while. Now I can kind of see. The only difference I see is the shadow of your stomach near the tattoo. And an added necklace
As a random unrelated thought- Currently I weight 136 and am about the same height; but I've always thought that it wouldn't be bad at all if I gained some weight, because I notice my arms are tiny and I get cold far too easy. My fiance laments 'I swear you've lost weight since I've last seen you!' (which is every three months, mind you), yet strangely I used to weigh 125 and I appear skinnier as time goes on, despite this.
It just amuses me because there's such a varied perception on overweight and skinny, and it's interesting to watch.
Although the most important thing, I think, is that you're eating well and therefore are probably more healthy than before.
Sorry for all the babble, I like to reflect a lot, lol.

both projects, together are fun as a concept for a body of work (pun intended). but also, with the minimal portraits, repetition, and nice contrasts, it makes for a visually pleasing project as well.

Ah I am doing the same thing. The photographing. But I suck at dieting so .. .I have a really bad progress , I seem to just jo-jo between certan sizes
But it is a huge inspiration and a boost to keep trying harder and harder if you look the first picture and the current one.

I should do that.
Lose weight, but I don't think anyone would want to see my nasty yucky fat body.

This is beautiful!!!
Does it help motivate you more? I've thought about doing something like this, but never really started it... but I know I should do something to manage my weight more... so would you say putting an artistic twist on weight loss helped?

I would definitely say that it accounted for 95% of my motivation.
I fully recommend it.

i saw this many times.....i came across it many times
never commented, perhaps because i knew i was gonna say this:
it seems like a dream to me, i always wish for me to work up the motivation to do the same, and to see the difference....in my head, i'll never be able to
perhaps that's why i never have...
it's a feeing feeling seens that dedication results in...well, results in something actually working....
i've always loved this deviation of yours...
i hope to be inspired enough to do the same (not deviation..)
