Description
--> Ponies [Earth ponies, pegasus and unicorns] have a peculiar tradition going on. They’re given a name by their parents when they’re born. These common names are referred as “Birth Name”, and the guardians’ family names continue after.
--> That name is used by the colt-filly until the moment they gain their Cutie Mark when discovering their special talent. The usual age for obtaining their CM is between 8 to 12 years old [can vary], and that’s where they can legally state their “Professional Name” or just “Name”. This name is meant to represent their talents, which would help others have an idea of what they’re capable of.
--> Some may decide to not follow these legal matters, both using their birth name still o changing it to something different to their aptitudes.
--> If a pony doesn’t gain their CM by the moment they’re 18 years old, they’re authorized to state their PN anyway.
[Other species]
Buffalos [and Yaks] --> Names that demonstrate their achievements, abilities or strengths. Their names may change depending on their position on the family tree, specially if they get to be the new leader.
Zebras --> Traditional names passed from generation to generation. They tend to start speaking in rhymes from a young age, so their names tend to be colorful and interesting as that is the first word they say perfectly.
Griffin --> Their names have a habit of starting with “G”, as that letter is considered representative of their species as their traditions say. Many end up changing their names when reaching adulthood to something more intimidating.
Donkeys and mules --> Common names, like ponies’ ones.
Changelings --> Only reformed changelings have names given by their leader [King Thorax]. They are unusual names, usually the result of mixing several random syllables. They’re still not too keen of naming themselves, though.
Dragons --> They name themselves when they reach certain age [when they’ve demonstrated they’ll survive their environment]. They’re meant to show their power, inspire fear and respect to others.
Diamond dogs --> Names associated with dogs (duh).
Hippogriffs --> Their names are associated with nature, especially related to the sky and the sea.
Klugetowners [like Capper & Captain Celaeno] --> ???
Deer [& related species] --> Names associated with the forest and winter.
