This piece is actually very well done and your best I've seen so far. You have captured the animals form and natural essence quite well and your color strokes give the impression of the lay of the deer's fur. Excellent work with the eye and ears. I think the only problem some people are seeing with this with the grass is you didn't spend the same effort on the background as you did the fawn subject. Adding a bit of the fawn's shadows upon the ground around him and adding a few darker and lighter highlights in the grass with different shades of green or perhaps pale yellows or light browns but not enough to take away from the fawn, would make this piece of work stand out some much more. Good work, keep those pastels and brushes flowing.

I was really focused when I was working on it. I'm not always able to achieve that mental state where everything else goes away.
I probably should have taken a break before I did the background. I wouldn't want to work on the fawn again because I'm not in the smae state of mind, but, I suppose nothing is stopping me from going back and doing more work on the background. I want to start doing drawings with more complex compositions, so I do need to learn to work in stages.

Thanks a lot. I was happily surprised with the way it turned out.
I think that I'm going to like drawing with the oil pastels, although my "arti" drawing didn't come out quite right.
