Color fiddling...and yeah, dark. Foreboding feeling maybe.Ravenwing. Being...quite bored with something. Perhaps she is wandering around the Nemesis in a stupor, I don't know. The BG I just painted in there randomly and was so inclined for that idea so, bleh.
Colored version of [link] as I fiddled more with what I was doing like, last year when I did the first round of reference images and more TFA stuff in general.
Even though my stylings now have went on some magical journey into rawr land, but eh - anywho, went through 4-5 different versions until I finally landed on this color style, and was happy. So argh.
I will make note though, the traditional lines are so much more jagged then the SAI ones...but bleh, i'll get over that in due time.

It can be hard to convey in some places I think, it's just I think changes from how one might perceive. I have this obsession with being a little dramatic with some imagery, and that works well for me with giant mechanoids, lol. It can be tough in some respects, sometimes I gotta play with it a bit to make it work, but I cross my fingers and hope the end results work!

hey, i have a question about this picture: did you actually color this above the lineart?
i really like the technique but i can't quite figure out how you did it. the lineart picture had pretty thick lines, but the lines here don't seem to be anymore.

The colors are under the lineart, but in some parts that were mostly black I cut it out entirely and in some parts where I left the black, I went over it with a gradient over the lineart with a 'screen' setting. Hopefully that makes sense! XD

Hehe, I hope it helps! I learned about the 'screen' setting with gradients from a few different tutorials I looked over with comic book coloring. Just make sure the gradient fades into transparency. Or something like that. I am horrible at trying to REALLY explain things. I am way to visual over reading things, lol.

It's funny as this was just something really random, i'm just glad it came out the way it did after all the prodding I had to do to finally get to the point of liking it. And facial expressions just do it for me when it comes to just general getting the work to come to life in a lot of cases, I play around with expressions way too much. XD

Thank you and as for the tutorial, i've been asked this before, if I keep up with this particular cell shading style and actually KEEP at it instead of wandering off for random things, then I might be so inclined to attempt, but for the moment I have to set it down pat. Too much altering in colors, argh. But it probably wouldn't be all that hard, maybe. I've never tried.

And yes, I wanted to play with it some color wise, drove me completely insane at first as I tried who knows how many different styles I had played with before but each one just didn't work until I went back in time and messed with the more original flat cell coloring I did on his original ref sheet and then it worked, lol. I'm all ways afraid I set the images too dark, but it works a lot with what i'm thinking anyway.
